a murder of one - Counting crows
It has that wierd "Is this song a remake?" Feeling about it. "Oh its not a remake? wow, I swear I heard this song before"

There are very few songs that I like from the 90's.  That was the decade when, IMO, music really started to take the downhill slide.

My favorite would probably have to be "Everybody Hurts", by R.E.M.  It's such a sad song and yet the music is so pretty.

Geez, i like too many.

Two Princes by Spin Doctors(1993)
Jealousy by GinBlossoms(1994)
Talk to me by Wild Orchid(1997)
Ordinary World by Duran Duran(1993)

This is as far as i'll go otherwise, i'll be in this thread for eons. :)

"Your Woman" - White Town or "6 Underground" by Sneaker Pimps.  I could listen to those two over & over without getting tired of them.

I always liked "Losing My Religion" too as well as "Shiny Happy People". :D

But more up to date nineties stuff I'd have to say "Wonderwall" by Oasis because it reminds me of loads of fun times with my mates.

The 90's didn't really have anything special...
nothing that you will remember in 10 years, unlike the 60's and 70's music which will be around forever...
if i would be to pick a song, it would not be the song that is most enjoyable to listen to, or the song that has the best rhythm or lyrics...
i would have to go with the song that makes the most sense...
and that would have to be:
"F*ck Religon" by Propagandhi

say what you will but the truth is that religion is to blame for so many destroyed lives over the past thousands of years that it is insane..

this song expresses that in simple words.

listen to this song, and listen to more than just this song.

"Everlong" by the Foo Fighters, not only my favorite 90's song, but my favorite song from any era, not to mention my favorite music video.

Second place, probably "Kate" by Ben Folds Five.

In my opinion, the 90's lacked originality and quality musically. It was (and still is, unfortunately  ::) ) an explosion of re-makes and sampling. Rap today is terribly overrated and I will never fully consider it music. I never quite agreed with the incorporation of rap in rock/metal, but to each his own, I suppose.

Didn't plan to ramble. :o

Anyway...

Since I didn't like most of the stuff in the 90's, I'll list more than just one group and songs.

For my ENTIRE DECADE's worth:

Young MC - Bust A Move
Sybil - Don't Make Me Over
Soul II Soul - Back To Life, Keep On Movin'
Queensryche - The entire Empire album
Metallica - The entire Metallica album (I'd always liked them and accepted the fact that even if they did sell-out in the 90's, they're only human - born to make mistakes.  ;) )
Tonic - The Way She Loves Me
Toad The Wet Sprocket - Walk On The Ocean
Nirvana's First album only - Nevermind
John Cougar Mellencamp - They're So Tough
Collective Soul had some decent material.
Pearl Jam and Creed sound awfully similar in my opinion, but both bands have put out some decent material as well.
