Subject: Prince's 1999

Written By: Indy Gent on 10/12/02 at 10:00 p.m.

I know that the song was written in 1983, and I may not get any responses here, but I just want to ask how close did the world come to Prince's vision of the Apocalypse. Did "everybody" have a bomb? Was there any purple clouds in the sky anywhere? And did the Purple One believe that his lyrics would come to fruition? Did his fans believe his words too? I'm sure a few people did lose some sleep over this song, but I wasn't one of them. How about others?

Well, IMO, the song was written as fairy tales and such fiddle-faddle's written - No concept of reality that was or could ever be.

It's funny you should mention this, because I recentley watched 2010 (the sequel to 2001) , and Prince's song like this movie were written at a time when war with the Soviet Union seemed inevitable.  Now the movie seems dated and Prince's song is just about partying.

He should just change the title to 2999. ;)

Well, maybe he predicted better than he expected.  Everyone does have a bomb, or at least they're hiding one and won't tell the UN.  And I'm sure there were parts of the country with purple skies, probably just purple from pollution though.

Maybe Prince really can predict the future!  Hey Prince! http://www.inthe00s.com/smilies/scream.gif What are the Mega Million lottery numbers for next week!
