Subject: Comebacks in the 90's

Written By: ChrisSquire on 01/30/03 at 06:38 a.m.

Well the first band that springs to my mind when i think of a rock band making a comeback in the 90's is Queen.

They sold millions of records in the first two years and then freddie ups and dies  :'( :'( :'( :'( TYPICAL!

Kiss in 1998 and onwards was pretty funny, they became the 'psycho cricus' like their own tribute band.

Eurythmics had a comeback that failed.

Michael Jackson tailed off in the mid to late 90's and is gone.

Aerosmith rose up from the ashes of really really bad drug problems and in the end of the 90's managed to come back bigger and better than ever!

I think about Duran Durans short lived comeback, and away from music, John Travolta resurrecting his career with Pulp Fiction.

Santana sells out, makes a record with loads of guest stars and maybe two good songs, gets loads of undeserved hype and acclaim and Worthless GrammysTM.

Janet Jackson made a comeback
and so did Whitney Houston in the late 90's
with Heartbreak Hotel and Janet with "All For You".

Queen's "Innuendo" was a killer CD!  The title track was stellar!

Another "comeback" I think of at approx. the same time was The Knack.  "Round Trip" in '81, nothing, then "Serious Fun" in '91 (The Single was "Rocket of Love")
KISS released product through the 80s so I never really thought of them as having 'gone away'.

Styx tried...
So did Deep Purple

Sex Pistols, I think they did a brief tour in '95 or '96.  That was so darn cool.  I remember reading in a Guitar World article back then that John Lydon said he was "only doing it for the money", or words to that effect.  So great...

The comeback of the 90's, for me anyway, has to be Meat Loaf. Fourteen years without even making a ripple on the chart and suddenly one of the greatest rock footnotes of the 1970's is #1 for five weeks. Who'da thunk it? Second place goes to Tony Bennett since MTV somehow managed to almost make him cool all over again.
