Subject: FAVORITE YEAR FROM THE 90s

Yes, like the topic in the 80s board  ;)

My favorite year is 1993. Everything was good that year: music, fashion, school, everything!

Hiya :)

I'd say 1997...the year I graduated from high school ;)  I was such a punk, it's amazing I actually kept my GPA up enough to get myself into college :D  It was also pre-Britney, during the Weezer era...and Madonna was still alright.

I too liked the 90's PRE-1998.  Before the teen bubblegum sh*t.

The Weezer era? I though Weezer had a hit song in 94 (remember that happy days shtick?) and then fell of the face of the earth until 2001 with that sumo wrestler video.

anyway, the 90's were best from 90-95. 93-94 were very memorable to me, seemed like so much was happening.

That's true :)  But they did play the first Weezer album constantly from their debut til '97, despite their "one-hit-wonder" status, they were extremely popular in my area...

1991
It was an amazing time here in Seattle, the start of the grunge music, microsoft taking off, coffee shops (not just Starbucks) major building projects, very dynamic times, and we were the darling of the world press for most livable, nicest, new jobs, etc city.  Politically the presidential race was exciting, not often an incumbent president gets elected out, I, and many others felt there was opportunity for some great changes, an idealistic hope that felt like it had a chance to succeed.

Darn right.

I turned 16 years old in 1991, and what a year it was.  It gave us music albums like Nirvana's Nevermind, Pearl Jam's Ten, Red Hot Chilli Pepper's Blood Sugar Sex Magik, U2's Achtung Baby, Guns N' Roses Use Your Illusion I and II, and Michael Jackson's last good album---Dangerous.  Plus in the movies we had Ah-nuld's Terminator 2: Judgement Day.  And SNL was still funny.

That year was weird in terms of presidential opinion.  In early 1991, George Bush Sr. was a hero because of the war with Iraq.  By late 1991, Bush Sr. was very unpopular, even within his own party.

Deffinenatly 1998. That was the best year of my life! I moved in with my honey. We also took a trip across country-my first time to California, Colorado and a few other places. We also went to my grandmother's 90th birthday party which was basically a family reunion. On the way home from that trip, we stopped in Vegas and I won $300 in a slot machine.  ;D I started doing a lot of volunteering that year.  It was a wonderful year!

1996 and 1998. 1996 STP, Collective Soul, Alice In Chains, and Pearl Jam were still on the charts. I also remember the Sweish Pop Band the Cardigans. 1998 was the year I graduated High School. That year of music you had songs like "Pretty Fly For For A White Guy" by Offspring, "All My Life" by Ki Ci & JoJo, and "The Boy Is Mine" By Brandy and Monica which was the top Song of that year. I also remember "Crush" by Jennifer Paige. By late 1998 Britney Spears came out and teen-pop stuff came out and music was sad for about a year and a half and were still trying to recover from the teen-pop thing.

I think I have to say 1996 - for the music reason.

I've recently been compling a CD for each year, from 1979 to the present. When trying to do 1996, I had far too many good songs to put on just one CD, and now I've filled two Cds, each with 18 tracks on. The music scene started going downhill after 1996 I think, as Britpop started to die and Teen-pop took its place. Not to say all teen pop is bad, beacuse it's like someone saying the entire 80s decade was bad - and thats blasphamy in my opinion!

You had Blur, Oasis, The Bluetones, Ocean Colour Scene, Toni Braxton, Belinda Carlisle, Mariah Carey (actually making good music!), Shed Seven, The Fugees, Dubstar and the list goes on...

IN order:

-1995 was the best year of the decade personally..I graduated h.s., started college, music was pretty good, life was not bad (except the Oklahoma City bombing), had fun but learned a lot too!

-1997 was 2nd best..middle of college, had a great job, lots of friends, lots of girls :-)

-1993, 3rd best..jr. year of h.s., pretty good music

WORST?? probably 1991 or 94..a lot of personal stuff really, though the era wasn't too bad..my family seemed poor in 91..

90, 92, 96, 98, 99..all somewhere in the middle with a lot of ups and downs, though music was for the most part best 92-96, some in 97..98 and 99 BAD (with a few exceptions)

92 was also good because that was the year I married Pretty In Pink and bought my first house.

I LOVE THEM ALL!!!!!

Seriously, 1994 was pretty cool, aside from Kurt Cobain's death.  I was 14 then.

Lion King
Speed(didn't see it til 4 years later)
Aladdin TV series
Final Fantasy III
Super Metroid
Sonic the Hedgehog 3/Sonic & Knuckles
Nirvana "All Apologies"
US3 "Cantaloop"
Soundgarden "Black Hole Sun"
Ace of Base ''The Sign"
Janet "Because of Love"
Offspring "Come Out & Play"
Mariah Carey "Hero"
My storytelling gets better

1998 was the year I graduated(and also when I was old enough to see Speed), so that's also a fave.

probably 94 95 or 96. Cause my whole neighborhood and the surrounding ones just a ton of 8-14 year olds havin fun(then people started moving like crazy) and it was the last really good years of Pro Wrestling(especially for the WWF) also in 96 we had that old school/new school kind of R&B, it wasnt like 97 and it wasnt so much like 95. The Fugees Jewel Alanis Toni Braxton Green Day Snoop Doggy Dogg were the new artists selling a ton of records. Rap still had that touch of old skool flavor in it, and Southern Rap wasnt so commercialized like what happened in 1998. Mariah and Boyz II Men were still mega stars, Tupac and Biggie were alive. Also it was when i started playin the Clarinet(I was gonna be better than Benny Goodman!)
some really cool movies came out-Speed, Clueless, Independence Day, Toy Story, The Lion King.
some stupid stuff, like the Trolls comeback and Beanie Babies and Pogs and Gimp, Tickle me Elmo, but it was all in good fun, y know?

Ok this may sound kinda cheesy but, My favorite year is 1997.
Why?
1. I freed myself from the Evil clutches of the New York City School system.

2. It was the first time I got to go to the top of the World Trade Center. I used to LOVE those buildings :'(

3. I became comfortable with my slow developing womanly figure and stopped hiding in baggy clothes.

4. My mother bought me my first Playstation! ;D

I really liked 1996.  Turning 21, moving out of my folks house and just feeling really good about the future.

Runner ups would be 1991 and 1993.  I graduated high school in 1993, and I like all the early 90's years except 1990.  1990 was a really silly year for pop culture.  Most stuff from that year was campy garbage like M.C. Hammer and Vanilla Ice that dated in 3 months.

I think Tatanka was running out of steam at that point. You know what the WWE do when that happens? They change the wrestler around from Face to Heel and try to make them look fresh again. Why do you think HHH is always changing? Always running out of steam. LOL.

My favourite year of the 1990s would be 1992 when I completed Grade Eleven and began Grade Twelve.  My favourite kinds of music were popular: "old school" Public Enemy rap, Metallica, and Alan Jackson/Garth Brooks "new" country.  I had a driver's licence and my parents always filled the tank.  In the summer was my last big road trip with my family:  we went to Ontario and Quebec, saw both the Blue Jays and Expos. In the autumn the Blue Jays won the World Series.  It was the last year before I had to make big choices about what to do with my life after high school and I regret some of those choices.  So that regret makes me look back fondly on 1992 as my golden year when anything & everything seemed possible.

Wrestlemania X rocked. Even though Owen was a heel, i became a fan in the match against Bret. He was one of the most underappreciated wrestlers of the 90s imo.

Shawn vs Razor. Wow. Classic. you can't say a lot more except that by watching that match, you'll understand why HBK became "The Icon." Also, the rematch in 1995 was a classic too. In fact, Shawn rocked 1995, First man in, last man standing in the Royal Rumble, And he wrestled a good match against Deisel in Wrestlemania XI.
