H'mm, If your looking for societal changes than look towards the fall of big hair music and rise of grunge in 1991.  1992 would be the beginning of the Clinton years and I think some hope for liberals in its day.  1994 would be the start of the OJ scandal and over the next year the rise of 24 7 news coverage of one topic of little signifgance, when "experts" were dug up and gave every possible take on a subject that could be voiced.  You could also look at the rice of "gangster" rap and the conflict between east and west coast that ended in the death of some big rappers.  Included in this "gangsters" running the record lables and how "street" smarts did or didn't translate well to running a corporation.  You have the Columbing massacre in '97(? i think) and how that effected school security and policy.  You certainly have the rapid rise of internet activity during the last half of the decade and how that may have effected the Columbine incident.  Last point is of course the Clinton scandal and how that was handled by the press, political parties and the people.  Interesting to remember that Clinton finished his term and the Speaker of the House resigned.
Hope that helps.

We can't forget that SUV's kicked minivans @$$es during the 90's. Everybody was making money during the 90's, so to show off they all bought expensive, gas guzzling SUV's. The price of a lot of things sky-rocketed during the 90's. The price of your average automobile almost doubled during that decade.
