Subject: What was your favorite song in each school year...

Written By: cyclonus5150 on 04/24/03 at 07:45 a.m.

Okay guys, this is a weird one.  I was wondering if you could think back and tell me your favorite songs of each school year starting in 6th grade....

6th - Push It - Salt and Peppa/ Naughty Girls Need Love Too - Samantha Foxx
7th - Like a Prayer - Madonna / Pour Some Sugar on Me - Def Leppard
8th - Batdance - Prince
9th - I wish it would rain down - Phil Collins
10th - Policy of Truth - Depeche Mode
11th - Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
12th - Jump Around - House of Pain

Okay, so am I the only boy who liked Like a Prayer in 7th grade?  Yes I am straight by the way :).

This should be interesting...

Did everyone here graduate high school in 1993?  :)

My list would be similar to what has been posted by the rest of you.  I listened to lots of Depeche Mode and INXS in junior high, then switched to stuff like Pearl Jam and Nirvana in high school.

It's starting to seem like a lot of us graduated that year, but it's a good thing! 8)

The first dance I went to in junior high, it seemed like all they played was INXS' Kick album.  I also still love their song New Sensation.  Music styles are always changing, but really so between '87 to '93.  Hip hop, rap, and grunge really came into their own in those years.  I listened to a little bit of everything back then, some good, some bad.  Remember N2 Deep's song Back To The Hotel?<shudder>

Hmm, ok I gotta think!

6th - Spaceman - Babylon Zoo, Don't Loook Back In Anger - Oasis
7th - Texas - Black Eyed Boy,  Cardigans - Lovefool
8th - Aqua - Barbie Girl , Tamperer - Feel It
9th - Time Of Your Life - Greenday, Lit - My Own Worst Enemy, Sugar Ray - Every Morning, NSync - Tearing Up My Heart
10th - Shania Twain - Man! I Feel Like A Woman, Artful Dodger - Woman Trouble, Nsync - It's Gonna Be Me
11th - Rui De Silva - Touch Me, Blue - All Rise,Lifehouse - Hanging By A Moment
12th - Britney - Overprotected, Travis - Side,
13th - Idlewild - You Held The World, Justin Timberlake - Like I Love You

BTW - These are not necessarily my favourite songs of the years - they are just songs that remind me of stuff that happened -  It's amazing how bad some of these songs are, yet some are still good! But they made my childhood years :)

Holy moly...It's crazy just how alike all of our song choices are.  Had I been thinking, my 9th and 10th grade choices would be just like this one.  I thought I was the only guy on earth that like Groove is in the heart.  And roundaway girl was my favorite too.

From the late '90's/early '00's:  ::)

6th: Montell Jordan "This Is How We Do It", The  Smashing Pumpkins "1979"
7th: Beck "New Pollution" &  Dave Matthews Band "Crash Into Me"
8th: New Radicals "You Get What You Give" &  Harvey Danger "Flag Pole Sitta"
9th: Nothing, since I boycotted some radio stations in 1999 for a few months.
I mostly listened to music from the 1970's/1980's & started to listen to alternative, hip hop, & pop from the early/mid '90's.
10th: Blink 182 "All The Small Things" (the only Blink 182 song I like)
11th: Depeche Mode "Dream On", U2 "Stuck in a moment..."
12th: The Strokes "Last Nite" & Vanessa Carlton "A Thousand Miles"
BTW, I still like most of these songs.  8)

It's a great song.  Looking back, I seem to recall both guys and girls that I hung out with at the time liking it.  I know when I go to a club nowadays though, my chick friends love to dance to that tune.  It's like an instant booty shakin' song for them.

Plus, pretty much any song that has Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest rapping on it, I'm probably going to like. 8)

9th-   River of Deiceft-Mad Season, Kiss From A Rose-Seal,  "Name"-Goo Goo Dolls and "Warped"-Red Hot Chilli Peepers.
10th- Stone The Crow-Down, Trippin On a Hole In A paper Heart-STP, Grind-AIC, and Abuse Me-Silver Chair.
11th- Setting Sun-Chemical Brothers, , Trip Like I Do-Filter/Crystal Method, Return of The Mack-Mark Morisson, and The Freshman-Verve.
12th-Too Close-Next, Let's Ride-Montell Jordan & Master P, and Nice & Slow-Usher, and Wide Open Space-Mansun.

Most of these songs are memory's from the songs themselves. Most of the R&B songs in 12th grade are about me coming to grips with the opposite sex. I really needed to listen to some sensitive stuff rather than just listen to rebillious "alternative Rock anthems". When I listened I just felt angry sometimes. "What Do I have Do" by Stabbing Westward in 96 was like a pro-test song for me against the opposite sex. 9th and 11th grade were troubled times. "Kiss From A rose" came at a time when I had this crush on this girl.
