Subject: Indie Rock From The 90s

Did anyone get into indie alternative rock or any modern rock? I have at least 4 mix tapes of indie rock, including Nirvana, which I never liked even though I had their "Nevermind" and "In Utero" CDs. Any favorites?

I think Nevermind is a classic personally.I could take or leave alot of the grunge stuff. The Offspring were my favourite.

What kinda bands are you classing as 'indie rock' ? I love indie music, but generally the lighter side of it?

Indie Rock? As in Husker Du/Bob Mould, The Dambuilders, Sunny Day Real Estate, etc?

A lot of the ones I like began their careers in the 80s. Sonic Youth and Soul Asylum are at the top. Husker Du was okay and Bob Mould has a few gems here and there to listen to. Sonic Youth, everyone's gotta get Sonic Youth to be a real Indie Rock fan. In the 90s I would say get their album 100%. Good schtuff 8)

I know some Sonic Youth.  Beck, I think, may have been too popular to be called "indie" but the aesthetic is the same.  I'm into some Flaming Lips, serious fan of the Afghan Whigs, semi-fan of Cornershop and Spiritualized.  Do the Lemonheads count?

I always thought "Indie Rock" were bands that put out their albums without major label distribution, ie: "independant"...I loved Damn the Diva's first album...and then the lawsuit and members changing and it all went for sh!t...the 2nd album was good but not amazing like the first album...where are they now?

Ooooh, I forgot two of the real important ones:  Pavement and Guided by Voices.

Actually, I kinda like both groups' more polished late-period material than the lo-fi stuff that put them on the map.

Husker Du were Ok, Guided by Voices are good (universal truths and cycles is a killer album), the Posies were, Madder Rose were & REM from the 80's were.

I also liked Beat Happening, The Throwing Muses and Belly (Didn't care for Kristen Hersch's solo work), Pearl Jam, Killing Joke and The Replacements.
