Subject: First Backstreet Boys exposure?

Written By: FloydsGarage on 05/27/03 at 00:09 a.m.

So where were you when the Boy Band explosion took over? I remember it vividly as if it were yesterday.........

I got up early for work and was flipping through the channels hoping to catch a little bit of Kiana's Fitness on ESPN2. You remember her right? The hot Hawaiian girl who lifted weights on the beach in a bikini.......

Anyway I'm going around the bend on the channels and get to MTV. They were about thirty seconds into "Quit playing games with my heart." Now what happened next is a true story.

I'm watching this and suddenly I'm on the floor laughing my head off. As God as my witness I had tears rolling down my face and I couldn't stop laughing. I actually thought this was some joke. Those limpid faces on the screen with the slow motion pouting, and then there was that weird whacky dude with the dead eyes and unibrow thing going.

I woke up my chick and she came in to see what the hell was going on. I pointed to the screen still laughing and mananged to blurt out. "This is the funniest thing I've seen in years!"

She looked at the screen with her jaw hung open in disbelief. "What the hell is this?" she asked.

I said I didn't know. I mean it had to be a joke right? Who the hell could ever take this seriously?

Little did I know that withion a few weeks that retarded song was playing everywhere. I couldn't believe people were going ga ga over this crap.

It got me thinking though. I take my own music as a joke and sell it for comedy. Maybe I should take my stupidest song and put a serious twist on it. Crazier things have happened.
Rock on.

Weird Al Yankovic has made a prolific career out of doing exactly that.  He has a new album coming out soon I heard.

I over heard some girls in school arguing(loudly) about who was cuter, Nick, Kevin or AJ...blah blah. I took it upon myself to find who they were talkin about. So I went on the internet, found the guys and fell in love.
That's right folks your lookin at a FULLY RECOVERED Backstreet boy fan.

Hmmmm....I was watching some special about how big they were over seas and how they would blow up when they came over here.  I was like "yeah right".  Well next thing you know I fall asleep in the living room one saturday night only to wake up and see the BSB dancing with chairs on Saturday Night Live.  Wonderful.

Before they were even known, my cousins were on vaca in FLA and three of them were doing a gig at Church Street Station......one of them, I don't remember which one, hit on my cousin and gave her a 'single' of one of their songs and said '...watch--you'll hear this on the radio by the end of this year..'.......ahe was like whatever, and put the tape in her drawer at work.  Sure enough 2 months later she heard the song on the radio.

I don't quite remember when the Backstreet Boys hit it big but I do remember the first time I saw the Britney Spears "hit me baby" video. It was late at night, like 3am so I must've been hung over, they showed it on much music.

I wasn't really impressed, thought she was sort of cute. I looked her up on the internet and found very little, so I just forgot about it. She really hit it big a few months later.

I remember seeing her video on "Much Music Countdown" in December of 98. I thought it was a "flash in the pan" artist. I was wrong but she really didn't last long.
