1990 Steve Miller Band - The Joker

1991 Bryan Adams - Everything I Do

1992 Jimmy Nail - Aint No Doubt

1993 Culture Beat - Mr Vain

1994 Wet Wet Wet - Love is all around (Still! from 21st May!!!!)

1995 Take That - Never Forget

1996 Spice Girls - Wannabe

1997 Will Smith - Men in Black

1998 Boyzone - No Matter What

1999 Geri Haliwell - Mi Chico Latino

I'll post my opinions later

Dead chuffed with myself, as I actually know a few of these...

1990 Steve Miller Band - The Joker
Completely stiffed when first released way back in 1973, this was exhumed for an ad campaign for Levi jeans and it sold by the bucketload - good choice by the ad men...cool song

1991 Bryan Adams - Everything I Do
From the biggie film of the year...whether Bryan likes it or not (he probably doesn't...) this is what he'll be forever remembered here for...another good song, but it didn't have to spend half the bleeding year at the top...!

1992 Jimmy Nail - Ain't No Doubt
Geordie actor with quite a good voice...this was okay, but sounded a bit too safe and bland...

1993 Culture Beat - Mr Vain
Don't recall this one much...dance fodder is all I can remember...

1994 Wet Wet Wet - Love Is All Around
Never really cared much for the song in the first place (originally done by The Troggs), so why this version decided to "do a Bryan" and spend eternity at #1 puzzles me...didn't really like the film much, either...

1995 Take That - Never Forget
Not being funny...but I can't even remember it...!

1996 Spice Girls - Wannabe
Was okay up until the first half-dozen listens, after which it became painful...my next-door neighbour at the time (who was old enough to know better!) took it upon herself to play this at any given time...glad I moved! Strangely, for a 1990's record, it's not even three minutes long (which is probably no bad thing...!)

1997 Will Smith - Men In Black
Another biggie film...and another good old tune hacked to pieces, in this case Patrice Rushen's 'Forget Me Nots' - didn't really do anything for me...was #1 on the 'night Diana died' (just in case you were wondering...)

1998 Boyzone - No Matter What
Boyzone...so it should induce heavy retching from me, but this wasn't quite as bad as what I thought...a tad overplayed though...

1999 Geri Haliwell - Mi Chico Latino
Geri (freshly escaped from the Spices) decides to re-write Madonna's 'La Isla Bonita'...and gets away with it - harmless enough...

1990 Steve Miller Band - The Joker Oh I love this song! It's a rela grower beacuse for years I couldn't stand it.

1991 Bryan Adams - Everything I Do As Paul said, it will be the song that Bryan is remeberd for. Was overplayed but generally not a bad song /b]

1992 Jimmy Nail - Aint No Doubt Catchy, but not my thing. I really liked the womans part in it I seem to recall, but haven't heard the song in years

1993 Culture Beat - Mr Vain Not a bad early 90s old skool hit, not a particularly fantastic one either

1994 Wet Wet Wet - Love is all around (Still! from 21st May!!!!) Erghh, boring, broing

1995 Take That - Never Forget Never was a fan but I did kinda like this song

1996 Spice Girls - Wannabe Loved the song back when I was ickle, can't really stand it now

1997 Will Smith - Men in Black Hmm, ok

1998 Boyzone - No Matter What Used to be a Boyzone fan :S Never liked this one much though

1999 Geri Haliwell - Mi Chico Latino I remeber hearing this in Tenerife for the first time and having no clue it was Geri who sang it. Not too bad for a pop tune I guess.

1990 Steve Miller Band - The Joker - Don't know this one

1991 Bryan Adams - Everything I Do - Lovely song, but was in the chart too long so got sick of it

1992 Jimmy Nail - Aint No Doubt - Ok, but am not a great fan of his

1993 Culture Beat - Mr Vain - Great dance tune, still sounds good now

1994 Wet Wet Wet - Love is all around (Still! from 21st May!!!!) - Not bad, but a bit too sickly for my liking

1995 Take That - Never Forget - The only one of their songs that I actually liked!

1996 Spice Girls - Wannabe - Not their greatest, but ok for a debut

1997 Will Smith - Men in Black - Great, much better than the follow up for Men in Black 2

1998 Boyzone - No Matter What - Not my type of song, but still good.  When ronan came in on the second verse it made the hair on the back of my neck stand up!

1999 Geri Haliwell - Mi Chico Latino - Ok, but of a La Isla Bonita rip off!

Skipping out the ones I don't know... I'll probably remember the Steve Miller track in a minute, but hey...

1991 - Bryan Adams - Everything I Do (I Do It For You)

Well, I have to love it. I am, will, and have been since age 12, a Bryan Adams impersonator, and, since 13, this has been the one and only track I've been requested to sing on a regular occasion... good memories.

In fact, this took over from Jason Donovan at number one - I actually remember listening to Any Dream Will Do during this one week spell. So much for this sieve of mine.

1992 - Don't remember it too well... must have been quite bland. Will look for it.

1993 - Remember looking at the cassette single of this that was brought over to England for me by a friend... don't remember ever listening to it... probably would not have enjoyed it if I did... 1996 was a better dance year imo.

1994 - Surely this, the week of the massive hits, this one went and shifted a massive amount, and not all so unfounded. I don't mind Marti's voice to be honest, but the record was just overplayed... and overplayed... and...

1995 - Hooray! I beat Paul! I do remember this one vaguely... not well enough to form a decent opinion on it, but will make wild presumption that it was like many of the Owen/Barlow/Orange/what's-his-name hits of times past - inoffensive yet influential pop - I think my sister bought it. Forgive her, she was only seven.

1996 - Ah, wannabe. Fantastic pop track, and the start of a massive phenomenon. For those who don't like it, don't worry, it'll be replaced mid-September.

Probably most famous to any American Simpsons watchers as being the accompaniment to Homer Simpson delivering Red Barclay's truck shipment... maybe not...

1997 - Rap. Rap. Rap. Where's the C? Having said that, Possibly (probably) my favourite rap track of all time (better than the later-to-be-mentioned Mi Chico Latino). Good memories of this track, because I bought it just before I changed schools. And so the Will Smith saga continues.

1998 - Two words. Guilty pleasure. As far as I know, a cover... and quick searches indicate that it is in fact a Lloyd Webber track. Not quite as overplayed as I ever thought it was going to be... besides, a bit of Rodent Keating never killed anyone.

1999 - Ah, great. Would catch Miss Geraldine Halliwell spouting phrases she never knew existed such as:

Que sueno, dolce y pequeno
Yo no se yo no se
Pero no es un cuento
Mi corazon con tormento
Chico latino te quiero y simplemente deseo
Yo lo se el camino
Es un sueno latino

Altogether now...

Hey, Macarena!

Four years on, and she's gone stale, but hey...

I remember all these . . .

1990 The Joker - Steve Miller Band
A wonderful song. "Some people call me the space cowboy"

1991 Everything I do - Bryan Adams
Boring song made even more boring due to it's excessive chart-life.

1992 'Aint no doubt - Jimmy Nail
Unremarkable song from the 'Auf Wiedershen Pet' star (whose last hit was 'Love don't live here anymore' back in 1985). "Why does she Prete - end?"

1993 Mr Vain - Culture Beat
I forgot about this song. Was alright but lyrics were rubbish.
"I know what I want and I want it now
I want you 'cos I'm Mr Vain" - Pah!

1994 Love is all around - Wet Wet Wet
I thought the song was allright but after hearing it for 15 weeks you've got to wonder who was still buying it! From the pointless film 'Three weddings and a funeral'.

1995 Never Forget - Take That
I didn't like the group much but this song was their best IMO. Catchy chorus.

1996 Wannabee - Spice Girls
The song feels like it should be two songs but the producers have tacked them together unwittingly. Not painful to listen to but shouldn't have got to Number 1.

1997 Men in Black - Will Smith
I don't like this song that much - uninteresting.

1998 No matter what - Boyzone
I don't like this song either.

1999 Mi Chico Latino - Geri Halliwell
Now you mention it, Paul it does sound like Madonna's 'La Isla Bonita'. I think this song is uninspiring to say the least - the video was rubbish as well.

1990 Steve Miller Band - The Joker
not funny

1991 Bryan Adams - Everything I Do
and number one, once more . . . stop the evil

1992 Jimmy Nail - Aint No Doubt
no, you're single sucks

1993 Culture Beat - Mr Vain
Mr Lame?

1994 Wet Wet Wet - Love is all around (Still! from 21st May!!!!)
Hate is still all you need

1995 Take That - Never Forget
no, because this might happen again

1996 Spice Girls - Wannabe
Wasn't

1997 Will Smith - Men in Black
that was good to dance to, not to listen to

1998 Boyzone - No Matter What
they're evil

1999 Geri Haliwell - Mi Chico Latino
who she?
