Subject: Where were you on April 19, 1995?

Written By: Merlin83 (Guest) on 01/26/04 at 03:06 p.m.

Does anyone remember where they were when the Oklahoma City bombing happened on April 19, 1995?  Do you remember what you were doing when you first heard about it?  I can remember where I was.  It was on a Wednesday and I was 11-years old, a month shy of 12 and for some reason or another I didn't go to school that day and can remember being at home with my mom that morning watching it on the news.  I remember seeing the building all leveled and firefighters helping victims out of the rubble.  I can also remember them showing sketches of the suspected bombers, who later turned out be McVeigh and Nichols.  That was real tragic, though I think it has since been overshadowed by 9-11, which was indeed much worse.    :(

I was in the newsroom of my university radio station watching the terrible event unfold on an old black-and-white TV set.
It struck me before anyone mentioned it that April 19th, 1995, happened to be the second anniversary of the incineration of the Branch Davidian compund at Waco, TX.

I don't remember the day it happened, but I remember everyone in my class talking about it the next day on the busride to our overnight campout.  I was 11 years old and in the 6th grade.

Let's see, that was a Wednesday, so I was at school. I was in 9th grade. I don't remember anything notable that happened in my life during the day, but I do remember hearing about the Oklahoma City bombing.

I was 7 at the time. I remember seeing the pictures of the building on the evening news, but I didn't think much of it at the time.

I was 12 years old sitting in one of my 6th grade classes when someone walked in saying that someone had bombed a building in Oklahoma City and the mood kind of changed for the rest of the day, but that is about all I remember from that day.

I feel soo awful saying this but I was in the process of getting drunk when the bombing happened. I remember cursing at the TV because it cut into a movie I was watching with my friends.

For me it was between classes my junior year of college.  I was just getting out of Cobol II and walked into the student center. They were showing the news on the tv.  I stood and watched it for a little while before checking my mail and going to my next class.

I was home sleeping...because at that time...I worked at night (graveyard shift) so I slept during the day.  I remember hating that job.  I used to smoke weed just to get thru the shift.  LOL   Good times...good times... 8)

REALLY INTERESTING:

i dont know why- but i specifically remember this. i dont remember exactly where i was- for some reason i dont remember if i was home, at my aunts, or at my grandmas. but i was 8- and i was watching tv- if someone says it was are the time of price is right- i was prob watching that- because i always watched the price is right when i stayed home. anyway i SPECIFICALLY remember it coming on- interupting the price is right i suppose, and i remember telling myself (i was a very precocious child) erica you have to watch this- because if it came on like this, it must be important. and i specifically remember thinking it was important to watch this- because when the normal tv was interupsted by OJ simpson news, i wouldnt watch it because i was a kid- and i remember telling myself that was wrong because it was very important. so there i was, 8 years old, and telling myself that i should really pay attention because this must be important- and i should at least watch this even though i didnt watch the OJ stuff. i guess in my mind i was almost comparing the two- as if they were the same event- and had the same importance. although i knew OJ simpson didnt have anything to do with oklahoma. anyway... i watched it for several minutes- i dont remember really anything from the story- except the image of the building. and after a few minutes i gave up, because it was really boring to me, because i didnt know any better.

anyway... i always look back at that- because i specifically remember how i thought it was very important for me to watch it- and i kinda feel proud of myself- that i was that mature at that age.

I was 9 when it happend and all i remember is asking my parents how many people were dead  :-/. It also sticks out in my mind because it was 3 days before my birthday. Bad things always happen around then.
