Subject: Anniversary of Cobain

Written By: ChuckyG on 04/06/04 at 01:31 p.m.

I'm a little surprised with all the news coverage, that no one has mentioned it here yet. Then again, maybe it's not as big a deal as the papers are making it out to be.  I'm beginning to get a little tired of seeing it referred to as a "defining moment for Generation X" which I don't really think it was.  The release of Nevermind can be said to be a defining moment for rock music, but his death?

I believe he's eligable for the Rock 'n' Roll hall of Fame in 2012 (25 years from 1987)... then we have to see all this dribble all over again in the paper.

I remember hearing of Kurt Cobain's death, and saying, "couldn't call it unexpected."  Only weeks earlier Cobain O.D.'d on some kind of dope on tour in Italy.  I thought the drugs would get him within a year. So it was the method that surprised me, not his death.  I'm surprised Courtney Love is still alive.

I know Nirvana is one of the most acclaimed rock groups of all time, but grunge is SOOOOO not my thing.  It reminds me of a cheap wine hangover.

The really dreadful 10th anniversaries are the Rwandan genocide, and O.J.  It's a disgrace that mofo isn't locked up.  The O.J. trial was the start of the media overkill that now follows murder cases, ala Scott Peterson.
:P

i think its a shame here isnt here anymore. they wouldnt of got any further though because Nirvana were gonna split up anyway.
i believe Kurt was murdered coz theres so much shit proving that he was. i mean why would he have his shotgun with no fingerprints on it sitting near him?
its kinda wierd dont u think?
i suppose if he wasnt murdered then he proberly would have killed himself sooner or later.
but no one ever thought that he might have done that to fake his death coz he wanted out of the music industry. but i doubt it.
i always think its a shame on his daughter, he was greedy to take away his pain and leave his kid with courtney.

but anyway, there wasnt much about it was there?

Being from Seattle and a big follower of the "grunge" scene I remember the date well.  I was not surprised either of his demise, as mentioned before he had a recent drug OD occurance that was glossed over by a press release blaming in on his prescribed medication and drinking a small amount of champagne after a show.  Pure BS.
It was however unfortunate, the man was truly talented, a talent born from the very demons that took him.

Sadder still is the death of Alice in Chains singer Layne Staley two years ago, dead and undiscoverd for 3 weeks- what a waste.

Oooh, I forgot that little detail.  His family called the cops when he failed to answer any attempt to communicate with him for several days.  At least his loved ones were spared the ghastly discovery of his decomposed body.  That task was left to the emergency crew who forced their way into his apartment.

Don't forget Hole bassist Kristen Pfaff who was discovered in the bathtub of her Seattle apartment, dead of a heroin OD.  That was 1994, the same year Kurt died.  Ah, Seattle, what is about Seattle?  The dreary weather?

I heard a couple of Nirvana's songs but I couldn't get into the whole thing. Sometimes suicide is the best career move an artist can make.

Not so much that, it's really not that bad.
More like young, insecure people with little direction and to much money and attention that they don't feel they deserve.
