Subject: The 80s

For all those (few) people depicting the 80s as lame: Take a closer look. The 80s page has 100 times the audience then this page. This page is cool thought. Most of the people (again, a few) simple do not get it, for probably for two reasons. They were too young or there was chastised there whole life in the 80s. The latter has still not grown up. Imagine that!

there are probably a few other small reasons the 90s page has less traffic:

1) it's newer (5 months old versus 5 years old like my 80s site), meaning, less people know about it, there's less information submitted/added, I've spent a lot less time on it compared to the other site...

2) almost no search engines list me (Yahoo refuses to add a link for some reason, though my misheard lyrics site got added right away)

3) the 90s only ended 5 months ago, I really doubt too many people are THAT nostalgic for Vanilla Ice yet.. especially after last year's "incident" on MTv, or for Jesus Jones, etc.

what's really strange is that I expected the 70s site, especially with the built in audience of people who love "That 70s Show", to have more traffic on the messageboard, and info submitted to the various pages.... it in fact gets maybe half of the traffic this site does, actually I think it's more like a third.. which brings up reason #4

4) the audience of the inthe80s site which is the only major page linking to this one... basically my demographic surveys have told me: 2/3 are women, between 20 and 30.... which means most people here have best experienced the 80s and 90s, with the 80s being early childhood, 90s being teen and early college years...

of course as far as demographics, that's a small sampling, (though it has held steady for the last 6 months I've run the surveys) 300 or 400 people total out of, maybe 20,000 visitors daily.. and it also reflects only the 80s site.. I can't be sure who here is over 30 or under.. no velvet rope when you enter and all >grin<

I'm pretty sure that as time goes on, this site, in probably two or three years, will see comparable traffic (not as high, but in the same neighborhood) to the 80s site.. if only because nostalgia seems to be something every generation experiences at some point... generally it takes twenty years, but it seems to be cycling a little quicker lately.. maybe fashions aren't lasting long enough..

ok, I'm done rambling...

Chucky, I was going to ask you about the possibility of a 1990s page materialising about 18 months ago. Your demographic figures are interesting, although I'll add to your research. I was in high school in the 80s and living out my 20s in the 90s and I gotta say there's plenty of good in both decades! Also, are there going to be more band pages added? Doesn't seem like there's very many?

I've been trying to add bands as people suggest ones I missed.. basically I went through an old issue of the All Music Guide and tried to grab anyone who was popular during the 90s, but since it was printed in 95, it wasn't too useful >grin< though I was surprised to see Mariyln Manson in there.. it's fairly easy to add just a blank page for a group though..

of course I'm way behind on updating the site anyways, too busy trying to write games and update the new misheard lyrics site.
