Subject: Early 90s songs and fashion

Written By: tarzan boy on 10/2/2000 at 2:14 p.m.

I'm looking for a couple of songs that came from the early to mid-90s. The first song, sung by a male vocalist (I thought it was The Spin Doctors), has the lyrics:

"I know a place where I can go...
...when I'm alone.
Into your arms, ooo oh, into your arms,
I can goooo..."

It's actually played a lot - especially in commercials/trailers for romantic movies.

The other songs, I have been debating with Eminem/gansta rap fans and their "newfound" sense of fashion (the baggy navy-blue jeans, white T-shirts, navy-blue jean jackets). I remember seeing in the early to mid-90s a singer/band from the UK dressed in this manner before anyone had thought to dress like this. I used to really like two of his/their songs:
The first one goes kind of like this:

"To the left, to the right
Step it up, step it up, it's alright"

The other one is played more often in various radio stations and has these lyrics:

"Aye aye ah ah aye aye ah ah
But if you're not connected, the writing's on the wall...
And if you're not (detected)...(something) you might fall..."

I remember the videos being played on MTV for awhile and seeing that this guy dressed in baggy navy-blue jeans, white T-shirt (I think even "wifebeaters"), oversized navy-blue jean jacket, and white sneakers. If one were to see those videos now without knowing they were made in the early 90s, one would think this guy is a hip-hop cross-over trying to copy the likes of Eminem and Kid Rock, except it's the other way around...

Does anyone remember this singer/band from the UK?

That would be "Into Your Arms" by the Lemonheads from the "It's a Shame About Ray" album.

Funny how kids think that the likes of Kid Rock etc., are doing something new and cutting edge without realising it was all done ten years ago by Public Enemy, Faith No More, Living Colour and Ice T, among others. I'm just about sick of everyone raving about the "Scream" films. Personally, I got over slasher films around about "Friday the 13th Pt 6" 15 years ago.

True. Don't be too harsh, though. Just because we don't like doesn't necessarily mean it's bad...but I agree with you, nonetheless. Thanks for the info.
