Subject: stay connected

Written By: chris on 11/7/2000 at 10:10 p.m.

My mind has gone blank on this one:
Who does the song with the lyrics "If you make sure you're connected, the writings on the wall.
But if your minds neglected, stumble you will fall." I don't want to ask my "I know every song ever made" friend. Thanks!

Thanks to everyone that answered my question! I hate buying CD's for one song, but if the rest is as good as you say I'll trust you on this one. The local music store can order anything for me that's in their computer, so I'll try there first. Thanks again. Cheers!

Dude! That song is by The Stereo MCs ("Connected"); they also had another hit with "Step It Up" ("...To the left, to the right, step it up, step it up, it's alright..."). TSMCs were an awesome British group that did the whole "hip-hop-crossover" deal back in 1993 (even the way they dressed is copied by "new" artists like Eminem and Kid Rock). They had a real smooth sound and very catchy tunes.

Their self-titled album is kind of hard to find (you'll probably have to special/mail order it from companies like Tower or Virgin - or you can try a compilation cd). Happy searchin'....

There are a couple copies of the "Connected" Album on ebay and one at GEMM Music. I agree with TB & Joker that Stereo MC's are a great band. I have all three 12" singles of the songs you guys mentioned and STILL play them at the club where I work!

BTW, anyone remember a group by the name of Stakka Bo? They had a song called "Here We Go" around '93-'94 that was pretty catchy and sounded a tad like TSMCs.

If I were to listen to the song I might recognize it (maybe not). The name of the band sounds familiar too, but my memory is not as good as it used to be. I am curious about it since you state they sound a little like TSMCs and the tune is catchy (a very good combination). Is this available on cd? (my record player has been long
gone - sold it...aaaarrgh).

It's cool that you play TSMCs where you DJ at (the people there have very good taste in music) - nobody around here plays their music anymore (or anything worth listening and dancing to). Keep up the good work!

You may want to check out GEMM Music for CD format. I'm not sure if that song came out on an album or not (around 1993-1994). They have an album from 1996 titled "The Great Blondino" which I haven't heard anything from it. Anyway, the chorus of "Here We Go" has a female voice singing "Here we go again...." Then the male vocal singing "Here we go go go to the (_________?)" (Sorry I can't decipher the lyrics).

Yeah, Raleigh NC still plays "Connected" on the radio quite a bit. I get requests for it at the club from time to time.
