Subject: Austin Powers Question

Written By: X on 7/29/2001 at 11:21 p.m.

In the second "Austin Powers" movie, Dr. Evil decides to frighten the President and staff by showing them a clip from "Independence Day". Presumably he knew they would initially be frightened into thinking the White House had been destroyed, because the modern special effects were so realistic. After all, "Independence Day" did not exist in the 1960s, right? But then later he says, "Show me the money", and Scott has to remind him that "Jerry McGuire" won't come out for another 30 years. Question: if Dr. Evil knew nobody would recognize "Independence Day", why would he expect them to recognize "Jerry McGuire"?

theres no point in trying to apply logic to a movie like austin powers. if u were to do that, u would then have to ask how austin made a time machine, all sorts of stuff like that. i think that was mainly a joke, which austin powers is full of. my advice: dont take movies like austin powers too seriously
