I don't think anyone mentioned:
"How Do I Live" by LeAnn Rimes (Trisha Yearwood also recorded it that year, but I dont know her version)
"Virtual Insanity" by Jamiroquai
"Where Have All The Cowboys Gone" and "I Don't Want To Wait" by Paula Cole

Excuse me, but I think "You Get What You Give" was from late 1998/early 1999. And I know "Kiss Me" was also from 1999; it was a top 10 hit. Also, I thought Dionne Farris only had one hit ("I Know", from 1995), but was "Hopeless (Like A Penny With A Hole In It)" popular in other countries or something?

"Kiss Me" was a 1999 song from a 1997 CD. So, you're correct. The only date that matters is the date of a song's release. I gave a date I first heard it, not the date it was released.
My mistake, "You Get What You Give" was on a late 1998 CD so it propably wasn't heard until 1999. I associate that song with an event, but it wasn't a one time event -- wrong one!
"Hopeless" was on the radio, but not on stations that would play say Foo Fighters. It's from the 1997 movie "Love Jones".
It's sometimes difficult to come up with the correct year for a song. Which date do you go with if a song is released in December but doesn't really catch on until the next year? And what about songs that are heard in say NY or LA (or Europe) first and then everywhere else three months later or a even a year or more later? ( ??? )
Thanks, ...
:D

No prob. ;)
I always go by the year in which the song debuts on the radio and/or hits the charts. Lots of times a song will be released as a single in December of a certain year but not become a hit until January or February. But still, I first heard "Kiss Me" in early 1999 (probably because that's when it first got radio airplay and hence hit the charts), but I didn't know that it was recorded two years earlier. Thanks for letting me know.

How about the song by Meredith Brooks whose title we can't mention? That was her only hit, if I'm not mistaken.
