Subject: Songs of 1991

Written By: Guest on 08/31/04 at 3:12 pm

I thought this was a good year in music both for rap and rock.  I was only 8 at the time so I don't remember too much of the songs but here are some good ones:

Right Here, Right Now- Jesus Jones
Unbelievable- EMF
Smell's Like Teen Spirit- Nirvana
I Like The Way (The Kissing Game)- Hi Five
Hold You Tight- Tara Kemp
Enter Sandman- Metallica
Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)- C+C Music Factory feat. Freedom Williams
3 AM Eternal- The KLF
Summertime- D.J. Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince
Kiss You Back- Digital Underground
Losing My Religion- R.E.M.
Everything About You- Ugly Kid Joe
I Touch Myself- The Dinvyls
Baby Baby- Amy Grant
More Than Words- Extreme
Walk On The Ocean- Toad The Sprockets
2 Legit 2 Quit- Hammer
O.P.P.- Naughty By Nature
Let's Talk About Sex- Salt-N-Pepa
Now That We've Found Love- Heavy. D

I agree, 1991 was a good year for music.  Here are some I remember well (in addition to the ones listed).

The One And Only - Chesney Hawkes
The Dream Is Still Alive - Wilson Phillips
Youre In Love - Wilson Phillips
Only Time Will Tell - Nelson
Winds Of Change - Scorpions
Because I Love You (The Postman Song) - Stevie B

Im sure there are plenty more, thats about all I can think of for now.

By the way, Im about sure that Walk On The Ocean is 1992.  Their hit All I Want was popular in Spring/Summer 1992, and Walk On The Ocean came later and was popular in Fall of 1992.  At least around here.

The early '90s had many good songs.

Some good ones I remember from 1991 are

Rush - Big Audio Dynamite II
Strike It Up - Black Box
Temptation - Corina
Too Many Walls - Cathy Dennis
Where Does My Heart Beat Now - Celine Dion
After the Dance - Fourplay & El DeBarge
It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over - Lenny Kravitz
I've Been Thinking About You - Londonbeat
A Better Love - Londonbeat
Diamonds and Pearls - Prince
I Love Your Smile - Shanice
Optimistic - Sounds of Blackness
Broken Arrow - Rod Stewart
Kissing You - Keith Washington

and these 2 were already mentioned

Wind Of Change - Scorpions
Hold You Tight - Tara Kemp

and also a couple that were good but I don't think made it on the charts

Radio Clash - The Clash
Thinking of You - Seven Red Seven

;)

I like those. :) 1991 was the year I turned 11, and I didn't listen to much music on the radio.

A few other songs from that year that I don't think were mentioned:
Everything I Do, I Do It For You - Bryan Adams
Baby, Baby - Amy Grant
Everybody Plays The Fool - Aaron Neville (a cover song I actually like)
Lilly Was Here - David Stewart (that one's instrumental; I remember hearing that one all over the radio at the time)

Hey, Mr. Ellipsis, are there any mistakes in any of the posts thus far, or were all these songs hits in '91?

That's a good song too. By the way, I was "busy" in a sense. I just didn't listen to much music on the radio at the time; if I did listen to the radio, it was mostly Dodgers baseball games. Occasionally I listened to some music, but not a great deal of it.

Here are a few more songs from that year that haven't been mentioned yet:
Shiny Happy People - REM
Cream - Prince
All This Time - Sting

Someone already mentioned Cathy Dennis' "Too Many Walls"; I love that one. 8)

I need help. There was a song out in 1991 or 1992 that my friends and I loved.  It was ridiculous.  The guy talked through most of it.  The only thing I can remember from it is "the girl who talk with her eyes."  And some nonsense verse.  If I could find it, I would be thrilled.  So if anyone knows the title or who did it, I would be thankful.  It was be very fun and nostalgic:)

No, nally, they're all correct. Except for one, which wagonman76 pointed out. Other than that, I'm pretty sure they're all accurate. ;)

Too Hot - Alanis (Morrissette)

Alanis had a hit in 1991? She was only 17 then... maybe she was popular in your country then; in the U.S., she wasn't heard of until 1995, when her "Jagged Little Pill" album was released. :-\\

Jagged Little Pill was her introduction to the world outside of Canada yes

She first sang on the popular TV show "You Can't Do That on Television" in 1986 and in the early 90's, she became a popular dance/pop artist across Canada and with two albums, she scored a handful of popular hits.  In the 1993 movie "Anything For Love" (starring Corey Haim and Nicole Eggert), she makes a cameo appearance at the end singing "Too Hot"

:)

Hmmm...I didn't know that, but I did know about her early appearance on "You Can't Do That On Television" (having read about it a few years back).
