Subject: Greatest 90s rock albums

Written By: Powerslave on 10/02/04 at 9:05 pm

I'm just curious what others think the Greatest Rock Albums of the 90s might be. I'm not talking about what we personally might think are the best, but what your thoughts are on those albums that helped to define the sound of rock since they were released or the most significant at the time that are still important today. I'm focusing on rock too, not the r'n'b/hip hop/rap, boy/girl bands, or "pop" stuff. Anyway, here's my list, in no particular order:

Nirvana - Nevermind
Metallica - Untitled
Guns N Roses - Use Your Illusion 1 & 2
Radiohead - OK Computer
Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral
Soundgarden - Superunknown
Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine
Pearl Jam - Ten
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik
Jeff Buckley - Grace
Tool - Aenima
Korn - Korn
REM - Automatic for the People
Garbage - Garbage
Green Day - Dookie
No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom
Offspring - Smash
Marilyn Manson - Antichrist Superstar
Beck - Odelay
Oasis - (What's the Story) Morning Glory?
Blur - Park Life
Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
Weezer - Weezer
Cake - Fashion Nugget
silverchair - Freak Show

I'm sure there's more, but they're the ones I can think of right now.  :)

Comprehensive list-'o-rock and all influential in their own right, I'd definately agree.

Perhaps, also:  Ministry - Psalm 69
Faith No More - Angel Dust

How about

Liz Phair- Exile In Guyville?

She certainly seemed to influence all those female alt-rock singers, even if it really didn't sell that well......

I'd definitely agree with those, and also Mary's Liz Phair suggestion. I certainly think that Dream Theater are influential, but I'm not sure if they have been as influential on rock as a genre as much as some of the other acts I've listed. They certainly influenced a lot of metal bands though. Then again, this thread isn't about right or wrong. :) Good call on the Cranberries. I'd forgotten about them.
