Subject: Creepiest '90's Music Video

Written By: woops on 10/22/04 at 2:21 am

Here's some music videos I find a creepy...  :P

I omitted some from Nine Inch Nails & Aphex Twin because I like most of their videos & consider them art. Most of these are just artists that like to grasp attention (Can you say Madonna?) or just plain bad to begin with like The Spice Girls.

Though a few are from the 2000's.

10. Spice Girls "Wanna Be"

The first time I noticed the beginning of the teen pop trend that's still going strong today with Britney Spears & Destiny's Child.  :P

9. Michael Jackson "You're Not Alone"

Features his then wife Lisa Marie. Enough said.  Second choice: the second part of the "Black Or White" clip.

8. White Zombie "More Human Than Human"

The music goes with thw video... just plain garbage.

7. Britney Spears "Baby One More Time"

Just plain wrong.

6. Alanis Morissette "Thank U"

Better if she wore a t shirt & a pair of jeans.

5. Missy Elliot "Get Your Freak On"

Believe it of not, the only rap video on this list.  Though mainly because most rap videos of the mid '90's/present are more degrading than creepy. The most dicusting scene is where Missy Elliott's neck strechs to eat somebody's spit.

4. Robbie Williams "Rock DJ"

Starts off as a typical pop video then Robbie Williams starts to rip off his body.  :P

3. Korn "Right Now"

The cartoon is so graphic & disturbing that it makes "South Park" look like "Care Bears". And that's saying something.

If "Take On Me" (a ha) is the greatest animated music video ever, then this has to be the worst.

2. Anything from Marilyn Manson

Just an attempt to grasp attention. So horrific that it couldn't be taken seriously. Like Madonna.

1.   Madonna "Bedtime Story"

Basically too bizarre to mention. Though all of Madonna's post "Vogue" material are horrific.  :P

Pets - Porno For Pyros (1993)
No Rain - Blind Melon (1993)
Been Caught Stealing - Jane's Addiction (1991)
Bedtime Story - Madonna (1995) (ditto!)
You're Not Alone - Michael Jackson (1995) (ditto!)
Wannabe - The Spice Girls (1996) (ditto!)
Baby One More Time - Britney Spears (1998) (ditto!)
Discotheque - U2 (1997)
Smack My B***h Up - The Prodigy (1997)

...etc.

I've got to agree with 'You are not alone' by Michael Jackson and 'Rock DJ' by Robbie Williams (that was disgusting the first time I saw it fully). 'Wannabe' by Spice Girls was just pathetic rather than creepy and 'Baby one more time' by Britney was . . . Well inventive, I suppose, if nothing else.

I don't remeber who did it but I was watching on MTV2 a program called "creepy videos". One of them was a Ricky Martin wannabee was dancing in the middle of a bunch of women. After taking off his clothes his rips off his skin and then rips off his muscles and flings them at the women, who start rubbing the muscle on themselves and eating them. Finally the video ends with a skeleton dancing with one of the women.

Would definitely be:

"Sadeness Pt. 1" by Enigma

My brothers and I used to get freaked out by the voices and singing in that song.

Was the Madonna "Like a Prayer" in the 90's  if so, it kinda creeped me out, but the backup gospel style vocals were great.

It was 1989.

I second both of those nominations, and add "Runaway Train" by Soul Asylum. I know...not really creepy in the usual sense, but the images of those missing children disturbed me. Of course, Pearl Jam's "Jeremy" really hit home. 'nuff said...

I don't remember the artist or the song, but I remember seeing a rap video on The Box where a guy wakes up in his coffin after he's been buried. I remember it being shortly after Tupac died. I'm not sure if that's when it came out, but that was around the time I saw it. I was 10 years old and had nightmares for months
