I thought that was funny; that was part of the reason I started watching that show! ;D
There's another show with a character who talks funny on the show but normally in real life: Megan Mullally, who plays Karen Walker on "Will And Grace."

I heard that the glasses Jaleel White wore on the show belonged to his dad in real life, who was a dentist - he used them to keep debris out of his eyes while drilling people's teeth or something like that.  When Jaleel auditioned for the show, they couldn't find another pair of nerdy-looking type glasses, so his dad told him to use those.  :)

And when Steve Urkel transformed into Stefan Urkelle, he talked normally and didn't wear the glasses.

Don't forget the lady who played Harriet winslow. She left the show in the lastr season because of the show's underusage of her character ( It was HER spinoff) and they replaced her with another actress. I think I saw her in a recent car commercial.
:) ;)

I know. Stefan Urkelle was Steve's "alter ego"; showed a different side of him. Stefan was everything that Steve wanted to be. Sometime later in the series Steve figured out how to make himself and Stefan appear at the same time; it was all too confusing to me.

Either that or Jallel White had a double. I can never understand how they do that. Just like in "Parent Trap." :-\\

Urkel was originally supposed to appear in only 1 episode but the ratings were so high when he was on that they kept bringing him back throughout the first season, and by the second year the storylines mostly revolved around him.

well Nally, they tape the episodes at different times so in a way you see Stefan at one time and Steve Urkel at another.

He wasn't even in the first ep. In fact, the pilot episode aired on ABC Family today (Monday) and it was nothing like all the others. In fact, there were quite a few noticeable details. First of all, Louis Armstrong's "What A Wonderful World" was used as the opening theme. Secondly, a different actress played the role of Judy (who would later mysteriously disappear from the show). And the set was different too, especially the Winslows' living room.

Sometime during the first season I think Steve Urkel showed up, but he wasn't made a regular character until the second season. In fact, I watched it for the first time in 1991.
