I say Clinton (not the presidency, but the scandal) and Boy Bands there were just too many of them.

I don't know ... out East there was a lot of Old School up to about 1995. But yes, gangsta's more mainstream then, but it's old school compared to today.

As for Old school Rap I tend to think of the 80's songs like Rappers Delight and Walk this Way.

3. The General "Laid-Back"/Seattle/Grunge Attitude
4. The Rebirth of the Sitcom
5. Teen Pop
6. The Growth of Rap and Hip-Hop, both Gangsta and Not
7. The Simpsons and other animated shows...
I'd also say the Quentin Tarantino "VCR" school of directors are an important feature of the '90s.

Yeah, early '90s is more Golden Age. 1997 upwards is the Glam Rap era, and 1993/'94-1996 is the West Coast gangsta period.

Agreed. To me, "Old school" brings up images of Run DMC and LL Cool J during the 80s, so perhaps it's too generic a description.
BTW, I voted for Clinton, coffee, and grunge.

Golden Age is like 1987 to 1992, with some 1993 and 1994, particulary towards the underground and back East. New School is 1995+.
