Subject: music stuck in my head, don't know song title or artist

For the past few weeks I have been thinking about an artist from the late '90s, early '00s. From what I remember he was a musician that mixed classical music and r&b/modern beats to it. His sound was very new and unusual for the time. I believe he also did a Sprite commercial (featuring his first single). This is driving me nuts!! I wish I had more info but that is all I can remember... classical music set to modern beats/r&b, some one please tell me I am not losing my mind.

All that comes to mind is "Bittersweet Symphony" from The Verve - came out around 1997/98. It was a midtempo alternative rock song, but with a classical background.
Does that ring a bell at all?

no, it is not "Bittersweet Symphony" (although still a good song). The one I am thinking of is from a solo artist, I am really just trying to figure out the guys name.
