Subject: Favorite "#1" Hit from 1991

Written By: TarzSp on 11/02/05 at 1:22 am

I thought I would do a series of these, starting with 1991 (1990 was a Boring year for #1 Hit Songs, but i'll probably get to it after 1999)

Anyway, this is a Poll, and on every one is going to be a list of all the songs that Reached #1 on the Top 40 Charts in America that year.  Starting with 1991, these are the songs that all reached #1 in America

I made sure the songs on the poll are listed in order of the date they Hit #1 (The first song being Early 1991 with the last song on the poll being Late 1991)

Remember, this is the American charts, just so you guys aren't confused

Anyway, pick your favorite  8)

Of these, I'd have to go with "Good Vibrations".  I still really dig that song  8)

"Good Vibrations" is definately one of my favorite songs. It would easily be my second favorite of 1991 after the Londonbeat song

Good Vibrations followed by Romantic

"Good Vibration" was a total rip-off of the Black Box single "Ride On Time" the year before in 1990 with added "Uh, feel it, feel it" by Marky Mark. Originality = zero.

(Sorry I'm very passionate about that  ;D)

Anyway, what a good year 1991 was eh! Lots to choose from... Amy Grant, Janet, Wilson Phillips... but I had to go for Romantic by Karyn White.

So far, "Good Vibrations" is winning this one

I guess I didn't realize that Mariah Carey had three hits that year?

Mariah is indeed very impressive, she manages to have multiple #1 hits 14 years apart  :D

I'd like to pick "other": "Too Many walls" by Cathy Dennis, which reached #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Aaron Neville's cover of "Everybody Plays The Fool", which also hit that spot on the very same chart, would be second.

Of the ones listed, I can't decide which one to pick.
"One More Try"--Timmy T.
"I've Been Thinkin' About You"--Londonbeat
"Baby, Baby"--Amy Grant
"More Than Words"--Extreme
"Unbelievable"--EMF
"Good Vibrations"--Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch

...are among the ones I'd pick if I could vote for multiple options.

I chose "I've Been Thinking About You" By Londonbeat, as that song has always been a fave of mine from that time. Yet, there were plenty more I liked that were also on that list.

I chose Bryan Adams' "Everything I do, I do it for you" only because back in 1991, when I was all of 6 years old, this actually was my favourite song because it was on the Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves soundtrack and they play the video at the end of the VHS. I was obsessed with anything having to do with Robin Hood when I was a kid, and hence I loved this movie and this song.

However, today, the ones I remember even more fondly than that one would be...

More than Words
Black or White
Cream
Right Here, Right Now
