Subject: Things about the 90s that "sucked"

Written By: WhattheWhat on 11/21/05 at 12:08 am

What about the Nineties do you dislike?

For me its:

-Death of the "old days", perhaps good but kinda sad
-Increase of violence and sex on TV
-People feeling the need to be righteous, hipster badasses
-People being so pessimistic about crime rates when they were rapidly falling ... we're getting better not worse dudes!
-The rise of boy bands in the late nineties
-The whole Bill Clinton thing - come on, Bush has made a million times more mistakes
-School shootings
-All the paranoia about going outside and doing stuff
-The whole "slacker" thing

Grunge Music and Gangsta Rap.  I hated both equally in the 90's

Late 90's and the fall of real music on mainstream. So basically Spice Girls and forward pop era, and as someone mentioned, MTV not being about music anymore. And it's going worse.

      Increased overprotectivenness
Schools have enforced totalitarian policies THAT MUST BE FOLLOWED like "closed campus", wear IDs, and etc.
Most TV networks started to go downhill in the late 90s

You are 100% correct. The media pushing grunge on the mainstream, and making people believe it was bigger than it was, is the second biggest fraud pushed into mainstream pop culture. .
"Grunge" was another one of those artificial terms created by the baby boomer-controlled media, along with "Generation X", or "slacker." (See my rant on "The Gen X/Y Story" thread.) They lumped Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden (all bands which I really like) and Pearl Jam (IMO perhaps the most overrated band of the 90's) into the same category, when in reality these bands sounded nothing alike and had completely different styles. The only thing these bands really had in common was that they were all from the Pacific Northwest, and that they all came out of the same scene, and the next thing you know all the major labels were signing any band out of Seattle and the media ran the so-called "grunge movement" into the ground in record time.

Congress responded by passing the Telecommunications Deregulation Act of 1996, which immediately placed Clear Channel Communications firmly in control of the FM airwaves. Not long after that, two operatives from the Central Intelligence Agency discovered a young Scott Stapp singing Pearl Jam songs at a karaoke bar in Pensacola, Florida, and thus began Phase II of their operation. Their fiendish plot was completed when the government-controlled Clear Channel Communications began giving heavy airplay to a band called Limp Bizkit (another concoction of the CIA, and whose leader, Dr. Fred Durst, got his Ph.D in psychology at Yale and is one of the CIA's leading experts in the MK ULTRA mind-control program).

The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Ross Perot was right, NAFTA really did suck. It sucked tens of thousands of good-paying manufacturing jobs down to Mexico, just like he'd warned us.
