Subject: Internet Boom

Written By: Roadgeek on 04/12/06 at 12:37 pm

Let's talk '90s Internet. The Internet actually dates back to the '50s or '60s and was used in the military. Until about 1990, it was known as the ARPANET.

I got my first computer in December of 1995, but wasn't online until about early 1996. We had  >:( ::) AOL >:( ::)

Didn't log in until 1999 I think, didn't get home access until 2000. Been using a comp since 1993 or 1994, and my folks have had it since 1994 or '95ish.

The Net of the '90s was definitely more primitive.  No google, it was mostly text, less MP3 downloading (except at the close of the decade). I'd say the boom years were from the second half of 1994 to the year 2000, in the States.

I used a computer for the first time in kindergarten back in '92 and didnt even hear of the internet until about '95. I'd agree the boom years of the internet were about late 1994/early 1995-late 2000.

Basically, I'd say, "pre-Internet" times is before about 1995 or 1996, however, even 1998 is significantly less Internet-dominated than now.

Our family got its first "PC" back in 1994.  It was an Acer, and man did it stink.....

The internet was just in the first phase of becoming something that every household needed.

We had AOL back then....

Ah yes....90s internet.  Remember back in 1992 when the internet was the ISH(Info Super Highway)?  Ha ha.....I experienced the ISH in April of 1993 just after my 15th B-day, and let me tell you.......it was effin' COOOOOL!  In 1995, internet came into my high schoo, to replace SIRS governent reporter.  I would skip class to chat with anonymous stranger girls from other countries and states, and look up music like crazy.  But it did help me out with reports and all.
