thanks Tam!
Rearviewmirror's a good choice - get most of the good stuff on 2 cds..even though Pearl Jam has a lot more to offer.

My fav Pearl Jam song has always been Porch.
Are they not supposed to be releasing another album this year?

yes!look above,it's the one with the avocado  ;)
was released in May,it's a great album, the band even claims it's their best effort.

I had their first 3 albums on CD but all vanished over the years so I got rearviewmirror - great 2 disc set.

I didn't realize that "I got Id" wasn't originally on a full length album.

Chaka, one question which has been driving me insane: Did Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains record "Alone"? Half the Internet says it's them (and it definitely sounds like them), while the other half list Tool w/ Creed.

Well I'm afraid I can't help you on that one..thing is when I first heard it I was convinced it was Vedder singing but now..I've got the feeling it isn't him but I highly doubt Tool did it with Creed.
On the Lost Dogs album there's also a song called Alone so when I bought the album I hoped it would be that song but it isnt.

Also, there's another song called Blue that's supposed to be by AIC but again I'm not sure, the quality isn't very good.
Oh yeah, there's this other song called Blood Tears Little Girl that Layne's supposed to have written for his girlfriend when she died but it doesn't sound like Layne's voice...have you heard any of those songs I mentioned?

It sounds like Vedder on lead, with Jerry doing background vocals, though I can't tell if Layne is in there too. . If Scott Stapp can sing that good, I take back half the bad things I've said about Creed.

The few Internet forums I've seen are split 50/50 too - TOS is by Downface, but the acoustic version (which is what we are talking about) isn't on any album that I've seen - not PJ, AiC, Creed or Tool.

On the Lost Dogs album there's also a song called Alone so when I bought the album I hoped it would be that song but it isnt.

I assume that is the PJ song by the same name - it isn't that, nor Mad Season's "All Alone".

Also, there's another song called Blue that's supposed to be by AIC but again I'm not sure, the quality isn't very good.

That is Alice in Chains - it's from their 1989 Demo. Here's a link:

http://members.tripod.com/aic_rarities/

I have it, it took a long time to get that one.

I agree; it might be Jerry singing, but that wouldn't make much sense.  It is listed as Alice in Chains,  though it doesn't sound like them playing either.  I have doubts about it since his girlfriend Demri died in 1996 - AFAIK Layne only recorded "Get Born Again", "Fear The Voices", and "Another Brick In The Wall" after Unplugged

By the way, have you heard a song called "Down", which is listed as "Alice in Chains with Creed"? I have it, and it has to be mislabeled, because it doesn't sound anything like either of those two groups.

why thanks for the link! I haven't heard many of those songs except Suffragette City (David Bowie cover) andChemical Addiction..those 2 songs are supposed to appear on the Heroin EP according to this website: www.rainwhenidie.com
BTW do you have an idea where you could find the Heroin EP?/do you have it?

As for the song Down,I haven't heard it but it does seem like a strange collaboration: AIC with Creed??!

You're welcome.

I have the Heroin Bootleg (it isn't an import as that site lists) and also Working Class Heros Bootleg. The song "Jane Says" is not on WCH; though I would love to hear AiC cover that Jane's Addiction song.

Despite what bootleg sites say, half of "Heroin" is recorded at the wrong speed; it's about 10% faster than normal (tracks 2-12 are demos).  Tracks 13-16 are recorded as garble, which sucks since that's "Would?", "Angry Chair" and "Dam That River".

The version of "Them Bones" is totally kick ass, and a million times better than the crap version on the Live CD. "Junkhead" is also way superior to the Dirt version. The demo of "Sunshine" is really good too, Those 3 songs alone make the CD worth the 27$ I paid for it years ago.

As to where you can find it/them, I don't know. I got mine at a head shop years ago.

There are over 50 AiC bootlegs; while most are repeated song lists, there are 2 that have live versions of "Confusion". I've searched for years trying to find that one to no avail.

If you really like AiC, try to find the WCH bootleg too - the live versions of "It Ain't Like That" and "Hate To Feel" are flat out awesome. Their cover of John Lennon's "I Don't Want To Be a Soldier", and "Ring Them Bells" (Layne with Heart) are the other two highlights.

Yeah. Alice in Chains has performed with Tool though; I have "Opiate" Live, though the recording quality is abysmal.

I was supposed to see them in Tampa in 1994 - ironically, they were going to open for Metallica. They cancelled, which sucked since that concert was my 19th birthday present. I was ready to kill James Hetfield in front of 70,000 people for mocking Alice in Chains - Metallica came out, said AiC had cancelled, and then played a few incredibly crappy licks from "Man in the Box". The show was still great though.

I never did get to see Alice in Chains perform live, aside from Unplugged. There is a DVD of one of their 1991 concerts out there - Moore theatre IIRC, though I don't have it.  :\'(

How did William Duvall sound? I haven't heard anything by him.

Also, a friend of mine mentioned a AiC tribute album in the works, with like 14 tracks performed by all different bands. Heard anything more on that?

Now way,you were at the Unplugged show?D*mn,that's crazy.
I thought Duvall did a pretty good job,I mean it's impossible to replace Staley but I was positively surprised by his performance.
http://aicreunion.blogspot.com/,there you can download the songs Would with Hetfield and there's a bit of Man In The Box by Duvall,so now you can judge his performance.

Uh, no. What I meant there was that I'd seen the performance. Unfortunately, MTV didn't air "Sludge Factory" and a few of the later tracks like "Killer is Me". The DVD has them all.

Thanks for the link! I'll check that out later on today.

Indeed, it is impossible to replace Layne (though Sully Erna has his moments...), and I'd be a bit apprehensive about going to an AiC reunion concert for that reason, that is, if I could even get tickets.

Getting further away from the topic of Pearl Jam, what do you think of Jerry Cantrell's solo work?

They probably didn't air Sludge Factory because they messed it up the first time.

I don't have any of his solo albums although I have heard a few (Anger Rising,Angel Eyes,Give It A Name,Psychotic Break,She Was My Girl..) but on the whole I don't think they're that good except Anger Rising,I quite like that song.
I'm assuming you have both albums;what do you think of them?

Those are all from his 2nd album, Degradation Trip. And, I asked you first since I rather dislike Jerry's solo work, save the songs "Leave Me Alone" (Cable Guy Soundtrack), "Cut You In", "Dickeye" (both from his first album Boggy Depot), and the song "Gone" from DT.

While AiC was more metal than grunge, Jerry just doesn't pull that off solo. Most of the songs have long intros, and kind of go nowhere. Of course, I bought them hoping for more AiC, so I was disappointed from the start, but even as stand-alone albums they are average.

Note that Boggy Depot was recorded basically as AiC minus Layne, but Degradation Trip is Jerry, Rob Trujilo and Mike Bordin.

I stand corrected. That is NOT an Alice in Chains demo, but rather a demo from a band called Thread. Here's a link:

http://www.itsnotalice.com/

Which is even better than a 'rare' AiC demo; after all, now I know of another band whose music I may enjoy - I plan on getting their CDs soon.

I visited a few more AiC forums, but there was no talk of "Alone". Sadly, most AiC links are now 404s - finding a list of bootlegs, let alone anywhere to get them, is very difficult now.

Well at least that's sorted..even so I still like the song even if it isn't AIC.

Do you know Faith No More? Also, how much do you know about Mother Love Bone?
Now I'm not very familiar with Faith No More,I've heard Epic and a few more but it's not really my sort of thing if you like but Mother Love Bone...now that's a different story.
Chloe Dancer/Crown Of Thorns is a masterpiece...such a shame about Andrew Wood, why do we have to lose all these talented guys??(Staley,Cobain..)
Other songs I really like are Man Of Golden Words, Stargazer and Bone China.

I assume you've also heard of Temple Of The Dog..?

I wish I could find a backing track for that song. Indeed, it is great, maybe even better than Gordon Peterson's original.

Same here.  I was obsessed with Ten when I was in ninth grade, but haven't really gotten into their later stuff.  I'll always have a place in my heart for them though.
