Subject: Product of the '90s vs. Kid of the '90s

Written By: Donnie Darko on 06/13/06 at 2:08 pm

When you call yourself a "child" of a decade, you can be referring to two things: that you're a "product" of the '90s, which means you spent a lot of your teen years in the '90s, or that you were a kid in the '90s, and watched Power Rangers, Barney, and Pokemon.

I would say to be a "product" of the '90s you would have to be born from about 1975 to 1984, and to be a kid of the '90s you'd be born between about 1985 and 1992.

1976-1985: "Product" of the '90s
1984-1992: "Kid of the '90s"

1984 and 1985 are crossover years, IMO.

Welcome back DD  ;)

And Yeah I agree. I would say that 1985-1992 is just about right to be a '90s kid. Even though 1992 would certianly be pushing it as '92ers really would only be able to remember back to about 1996 and would be a bit biased toward the late '90s I still think there a tad too old to be true '00s kids.

Yeah, somebody born in 1992 is just old enough to have squeezed by before all the '00s kids stuff really took over, like say Finding Nemo and the "new" Nickelodeon.

Yeah, 1992 is the absolute last year that I would say someone would be too old to be an '00s kid. 1993ers may be somewhat split but I'd say the average '93er would be more into the '00s kid stuff you mentioned.

I think even a 1993er is slightly split. Like they could've gotten into some stuff like Rocko's Modern Life in reruns c. 1999. But they're old enough for Spongebob Squarepants, sort of defeating it.

Yeah, I also would say that 1993 is the absolute last year someone could be born in and really be into any '90s kid stuff peroid. They would have been 6-7 in 1999-2000 which is when alot of the older shows on Nick got filtered out by the newer ones. It's possible that a '93er that watched alot of t.v back in 1999 could have caught alot of those shows in re-runs like you said.

(In my opinion) You are a 90's kid if you were born in 1993 or ealier. To be a 19's teen you have to be born in 1982 or earlier.

Here is what I think:

90's TEENAGERS are born between 1980 and 1985.
A 90's KID is born between 1987-1993.
00's (or 2000's) TEENAGERS are born between 1987-1995.
A 00's kid is born between 1996-2003.
and so it goes on....

90's people 1972 - 1982, the teens of the time were born around 1975-1981
90's kids 1983 - 1992 (?)

I was born in 1979.

I was born in 1991, thus making me a 90s kid and an 00s teen according to this, which i would agree with. I remember the cartoons and have vague memories of the 1998-2001 era leading up to 9/11 and my junior high and high school years were spent in the 00s as i graduated high school in 2010.

I have no memories of March of 1993 at 3pm and therefore I'm not a 90s kid.

I'd say "90s kids" are 1982-1991.

I'm not sure about "product" of the 90s. :-\\

The Arch deluxe has no memories prior to 1995, so it cannot be a true 90s product.

So the Arch Deluxe's that I used to eat in the 90s, were just a figment of my imagination?

It's stuff like this that make these topics dumb

He's not saying the Arch Deluxe didn't exist in the 90s, nor that it wasn't a 90s product.  Only that it if it were a human being, it wouldn't be a kid of the '90s.

OK, so actually that was what he was saying.  He's wrong.  The Arch Deluxe is a product of the 90s, but it is not a kid of the 90s, unless McDonald's was taken over by the Soylent Corporation and we all missed it.  Which we didn't.  Or there'd have been a thread about it in the 70s board.

And if that's not pedantic enough,

I also turned on the closed-captioning for this thread.

I dunno, maybe where Whistledog lives, the Archdeluxe he was eating was probably made out of people...particularly kids(90s kids?  80s kids?)  If that's the case then it is truly not a 90s product!  ;D
