Subject: Songs that mention the '90s

Written By: WalkerP20 on 06/15/06 at 8:05 am

Basically any songs that mention the '90s or any specific year of the '90s.  I've found that the majority of songs that mention the '90s are Rap Songs.  Especially rap songs from the '90s.  Here's a list of some songs I found that mention the '90s

Coolio - "Too Hot" (1995)

I don't have to ask you where you've been
Because the matches in your purse say "Holiday Inn"
A mind is a terrible thing to waste, that was the slogan
But now it's 1995 and it's "don't forget the Trojan"

Understand that we livin' in the '90s yo
Nuclear Waste, Cannibalism, and Pistol Smoke,
Sex, Lies, Videotape and Rape
Just a little Bump N' Grind can seal your fate

Paperboy - "Ditty" (1992)

Yo, this is how I'm comin' from the nine deuce
Another fat, fat track
So Rhythm D, pour the orange juice

Just let me clock this groove in ninety two
Hey, you don't bother me and I sure 'nuff won't bother you

69 Boyz - "Tootsie Roll" (1994)

The butterfly, Uh Oh thats old,
Let me see that tootsee roll.
Yeah 1994!
69 boyz backed up by Quad City D.J.
One time,
Cotten candy sweet to go, let me see that tootsie roll

Busta Rhymes - "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See" (1997)

Flipmode,
Busta Bust,
Nine seven
Hot ish (C'mon),
Check it out

Alanis Morissette - "Unsent" (1998)

I used to say the more tragic the better,
the truth is,  whenever I think of the early '90s,
your face comes up with a vengeance like it was yesterday

OutKast - "B.O.B." (1999)

So now we sittin' in a drop-top, soakin wet
In a silk suit, tryin' not to sweat
Hits somersaults without the net
But this'll be the year that we won't forget
1-9-9-9

50 Cent & The Game - Hate It or Love It (2005)

I stay strapped like car seats,
Been banging since ma lil' homie, rob, got killed for his Barkley's
That's ten years,
I told Pooh in '95
I'll kill you if you try me for my air-max 95's

Can anyone think of some others?

I just remembered another

Montell Jordan - "This Is How We Do It" (1995)

Check it out!
Once upon a time in '94
Montell made no money and life sure was slow
All they said was 68 he stood
And people thought the music that he made was good
There lived a d.j. and paul was his name
He came up to monty, this is what he said
You and o.g. are gonna make some cash
Sell a million records and well make in a dash

Ok, don't blame me for the song - it just popped into my head when I read the title of this thread.  As hokey as it was, how about "Wild Wild West" by Escape Club?

Heading for the nineties living in the eighties
Screaming in a back room waiting for the big boom
Give me give me wild west
Give me give me safe sex
Give me love give me love
Give me time to live it up

There's "California Love" by 2Pac and Dr. Dre:

"I been in the game for ten years makin rap tunes
ever since honeys was wearin sassoon
Now it's '95 and they clock me and watch me
Diamonds shinin lookin like I robbed Liberace"

I've always wondered why rappers love to say what year it is in their songs (Well only during the '90s, you never see it anymore).  I guess they like to look back on the song years later to remind them which year they made it  ;D

Or maybe they knew a certain year was "cool" and wanted to put the year on the track.

Into You by Fabolous (2003) has a line that mentions the '90s and '00s.

"I can

Escape Club's "Wild Wild West", a late 80's song, has some dated lyrics.

"Headed for the nineties, livin' in the wild wild west."
Also;
"Headed for the nineties, livin' in the eighties..."

Ok, from now on, only list songs that were released in the '90s or after.  It's kind of pointless for any song made before the '90s to even mention the '90s, not even knowing about the decade yet

I remember Eminem saying something like "Aftermath...2006" in a song that came out in 2005 (produced in 2004).  But that isn't 90s, sooo...  :P

Maybe so, but Escape Club was obviously looking forward to the decade in "Wild Wild West", as I mentioned above.

I can't think of any other 90's or 00's songs that talk about the 90's right now. :-\\

Basically any songs that mention the '90s or any specific year of the '90s.

The grandmother of 'em all, from 1986, Trans-X, who wrote a song entitled "(I want to see) Through the Eyes of the 90s".

I can't find a video for it, but the link above will provide you with some interesting reading.  And listening, if you're so inclined.

Back in 1981, when the one-hit wonder came out, we thought we'd all be living on video, with top-loading VCRs and green-screen Commodore CBMs in the background (Spot the Geek:  Got a video with a hot French brunette dancing, and the first thing I notice is that at 1:24 it's not a Commodore PET, it's a Commodore CBM 8032, which was the big brother of the Commodore PET 4000 that I grew up with in school).

Seen through the eyes of the 80s, the 90s were going to look something like this:

b9xBAtCsCTQ

Then grunge happened, and we had to wait until the 2020s to wear weird shiny outfits again, and by that time, you didn't have to take the tape out of the VCR, it was all wireless.

The 90s were the 60s turned upside down - The Judds

I recently found this song and couldn't believe that they would actually record the song, as ironically corny as it is, I kinda think they are right?
