I remember someone (Maybe it was you) doing threads like this last year and I loved it, I like seeing the old charts from 15 or 10 years ago.  There should be an Official Thread for throwback 90s music charts.  I think i'll make one, so every week we can post the Top 50 from that week 10 or 15 years ago (Kinda like what we do over on the 00s board with todays charts)

I'll go ahead and make one with the Billboard Hot 100 chart from 10 years ago  ;) (I like the way you format yours whistledog)

I think Tuesday, May 10, 1994 was the day that my soon-to be graduating 8th grade class went on a trip to Washington D.C., and came back Sunday the 15th. I wasn't allowed to go because I was bad, but a lot of my friends went. My dad was pissed at me too, because at the beginning of the school year we had to sign forms for it and he was disappointed because he "couldn't wait to get a peaceful week away from me."

Wait a second...how could that be? I thought that Conan O'Brien had taken over as host of "Late Night" in September 1993, which was eight months before this. And Letterman had moved to CBS to begin hosting his "Late Show."

Also, that particular date was a Friday the 13th, and it was a bad luck day for me. ::)

Let's see, that was a Friday...and I still had 3 more weeks of 8th grade. I take it that school started much earlier where you lived?

For the record, I do happen to know that a live-action Flintstones movie, starring John Goodman, opened in theatres that day.

Ok, Gotcha. :) I have lived in southern California all my life, and always went to school in the Los Angeles area. From 1991-93 we had a "year round" schedule that was done away with for most schools in mid-1993. My 8th grade year began in September 1993 on the day after Labor Day, and the first half of the school year was originally scheduled to end at the end of January, but the Northridge earthquake messed things up and we began the second half of the school year in early February instead. But the full school year ended in mid-June, as planned.

Oh i see. I started junior high in 1991, in sixth grade. And a lot of other Junior High schools were strictly 7th and 8th grade.

In 1991, I started the 6th grade, and it was still elementary school for me. The following year, when I began 7th grade, it was the first year that the school I began attending changed from a "Junior High" school to a "Middle" school, although the terms were used interchangeably. (I.o.w, up through the 1991-92 year, it had been a "junior high", comprising grades 7, 8, and 9. Beginning with the 1992-93 year, it became a "middle" school, comprising grades 6, 7, and 8. Hence I only spent two years there.)

That event was televised all over TV, especially in the Los Angeles area. I even watched it. We were having a party at home to celebrate my graduation from middle school, but one of my guests told me that the Oj Simpson chase was on TV, so I turned it on...and pretty soon all 15 of us were glued to the tv set. So it kindof became an "OJ watching party"! :D

Late afternoon/early evening hours in California (4pm to about 8pm). So that would have been the middle of the night your time. You were probably sleeping while it was going on.

Most likely so. News that happens in the U.S. during late afternoon/evening hours would most likely show up in European newscasts the following day.

Anyway, it's been almost 15 years since my family and I went on our two-week trip to the Midwest, which was my first trip ever outside of California. This date (June 18) was a Saturday, so we were probably getting prepared.

Hmm, you learn something new every day!

I still knew lots of those songs back in the day in the U.S. In fact, on this date, when we were traveling around in Dubuque, Iowa, we turned on the radio and heard a couple of them on the local pop station.

I remember that very well. It would be the longest work stoppage in MLB history. :(

At the time the strike began, the Montreal Expos were leading the N.L. East division, with the Braves not far behind. Had there been no strike, the Expos would have undoubtedly seen postseason play for the first time since 1981, and maybe have gone on to their first World Series. But the world will never know what could have been. :-\\

Probably a good move for them.

Burned cat makes progress; kittens in 'foster home'
    Scarlett

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Scarlett, the hero cat that rescued her five kittens from a burning building last week, was eating well Friday and appeared more comfortable than she had been Thursday. Marge Stein of the North Shore Animal Medical Center on Long Island, where Scarlett is being treated, said the cat's eyes are heavily medicated, and she is losing some skin over burn wounds in some areas, but her condition is stable.

Her kittens, who were slightly singed, are receiving care in a "foster home." They will not be available for adoption until they have fully recovered. They are no doubt already well spoken for, as over 1,000 callers from as far away as England and Canada have asked about adopting the kittens or contributing funds for their recovery. The North Shore Animal League has started a "Scarlett Fund," a fund designed to help animals that need emergency treatment.

Scarlett and her five kittens were discovered by veteran firefighter David Giannelli a week ago as he battled flames in an abandoned building in Brooklyn. After the fire was put out, he saw the mother carrying her kittens one by one across the street.

Cora Fischman denies having affair with Simpson
    Fischman

LOS ANGELES (CNN) -- Cora Fischman, one of Nicole Brown Simpson's closest friends, disputed a lawyer's speculation that she is having an affair with O.J. Simpson.

Fischman, accompanied by her lawyer, spoke Friday at a news conference aiming to clear up the hubbub surrounding two statements she made behind closed doors in her deposition for the Simpson civil trial.

Her statement under oath that she currently sees a lot of Simpson was interpreted by a lawyer for Ron Goldman's family to mean that she is probably having an affair with him. She said Friday that she is not -- and that she only sees Simpson so often out of a desire to be near his children.

"All I did was want to take care of his kids. I was very close to those kids," she said.

The second statement was that Fischman did not believe Simpson killed his ex-wife and her friend, Ron Goldman. During her news conference, Fischman said she took that stance because she "wasn't there -- and that's all I've ever said."

Prosecutors must prove Kevorkian intended to kill
    Kevorkian

DETROIT, Michigan (CNN) -- The Michigan Court of Appeals late Friday upheld last week's ruling in the trial of Dr. Jack Kevorkian. The ruling said that prosecutors must prove to a jury that Kevorkian intended for his patients to commit suicide in order to be convicted of assisted suicide.

The ruling is a victory for the defense, which contends Kevorkian intended only to relieve his patients' pain and suffering when he counseled and helped his patients end their lives. The prosecution says he will likely appeal the decision to Michigan's Supreme Court.

Kevorkian is charged in the 1991 deaths of Sherry Miller, 43, of Roseville and Marjorie Wantz, 58, of Sodus. Miller died after inhaling carbon monoxide. Wantz died of an injection.

Kevorkian, 67, has escaped conviction twice under Michigan's now-expired assisted suicide law, enacted by the Michigan Legislature specifically to stop him. His current trial is being held under Michigan common law.

Kevorkian trial poses new legal questions

Brevard schools sued over kissing kids
    Kissing kids

MELBOURNE, Florida (CNN) -- The Brevard County school system is being sued for punishing two fifth-graders who admit they were kissing in the halls of Atlantis Elementary School.

They were suspended for a day, then told that they may not be allowed to join their school chorus when it takes a trip to Tallahassee next week, as punishment for sneaking off to smooch.

The lawsuit was filed by the American Civil Liberties Union on behalf of the two students. The ACLU said it plans to ask a circuit court judge Monday to force the school to take the pair on the field trip. According to the ACLU, the 11-year-olds were denied due process and civil rights. Their suit seeks compensation for the students' pain, and reimbursement for their legal expenses.

The school's principal, Vicki Mace, said the two students can only go to Tallahassee if their parents accompany them. The parents say they can't afford to go.

Nobel scientist charged with child sexual abuse
    Dr. Daniel Gajdusek

FREDERICK, Maryland (CNN) -- A Nobel Prize winning scientist has been charged with sexually abusing a 15-year-old boy.

The FBI says that Dr. Daniel Gajdusek, who won the Nobel prize in 1976 for his work on infectious diseases, brought the boy to Maryland from Micronesia and molested him from 1987 through 1991.

FBI spokesman Larry Foust said that the 72-year-old chief of the Laboratory of Central Nervous System Studies at the National Institutes of Health was held in lieu of $1 million bail.

The accuser, now a college student, was living with Gajdusek while the alleged abuse took place. Gajdusek denied being a pedophile.

"Not in the way that you are using the term," he told reporters outside the sheriff's office.

15 years ago this month I remember we moved to our new house, I was just finished with 3rd grade. One of the things I remember about 3rd grade was that we had these sunshines and stop signs that we would stick on the placemats we had on our desks, we would get sunshines when we were good and stop signs when we were bad. I mostly had sunshines but one time I remember I got I think it was 3 stop signs and I had to stay after school for like 15 minutes. ;D One of the other things I unfortunately remember was throwing up all over my placemat.  ;D That summer we went on vacation to Minnesota, I remember I met a couple kids up there that were with their grandparents. I wonder where they are all these years later...

Some of my personal favorites that were popular that year include "Naked Eye" by Luscious Jackson, "Crash Into Me" by Dave Matthews Band, "Virtual Insanity" by Jamiroquai, "One Headlight" by the Wallflowers, and "All For You" by Sister Hazel, to name a few.

P-Diddy's "I'll Be Missing You" in memory of Biggie Smalls was good. Sure, it sampled "Every Breath You Take" by The Police but the song worked well for its purpose.

That's true, it did. At first I was annoyed by the obvious sample of the Police's "Every Breath You Take", but yes, I did find out that P-Diddy wrote it as a tribute to Notorious B.I.G. (also known as "Biggy Smalls", as you mentioned), who would have been 40 this year if he hadn't gotten killed. :\'(

November 27, 1997, was Thanksgiving Day in the U.S.

In the evening I watched "Wheel Of Fortune"; it was 'Best Friends Week' on the show and one of the duos on that night's episode was a pair of faculty members from my high school; one was a school counselor who was also the drill team coach, and the other was a Physical Education teacher who was also the cheerleading coach. They won the most money in the maingame, and went on to win the bonus round prize... and came back at the end of the week. (This was back when "Wheel" invited back the three top winners at the end of each special week.) When I went back to school the following Monday, I congratulated them on winning.

I had known that they were going to appear, as that week's episodes had been filmed in early October, and one of them mentioned then that they'd be appearing on "Wheel" during Thanksgiving week, but they were not allowed to disclose any further details.
