That's right...you're four years my senior! :D (So you'll hit the big three o this year!) :-X

Anyhoo, like I said above, Ace of Base's "The Sign" was unarguably my favorite hit from that year. A couple other tracks from that album were also big hits...but aside from them, I enjoyed other songs too, including:

"If You Go" by Jon Secada
"All I Wanna Do" by Sheryl Crow
"Here Comes The Hotstepper" by Ini Kamoze
"Stay (I Missed You)" by Lisa Loeb and Nine Stories
...among others, which I might think to mention later

I wonder if our friend, the Ellipsis guest, will investigate the release dates of these songs for us.

Just a couple of corrections.  "A Girl Like You" by Edwyn Collins was a hit in Late 1995.  "No Rain" by Blind Melon was a hit in Mid/Late 1993, and "Take A Bow" by Madonna was a #1 Hit in Early 1995 (February 25th to be exact)

Take A Bow was on Bedtime Stories, which was released in 1994.  Therefore, you can consider it a 1994.  Is this thread based on merely chart positions?

No, not really...but in WKM's defense, lots of people tend to associate songs with the year that they became popular on the charts.

The song was released as a single in December 1994.....I think that qualifies as a 1994 song.

I knew that. ;) In fact, I remember hearing it on the radio around Christmas time. So I agree that it could be considered a '94 song.

I did a poll of Madonna 90s songs a while back but I can't remember if I put '94 or '95 as the year...I'll have to see if I can dig up that thread.

I think both 1994 and 1995 would be appropriate as that mentions the year of release and the year it charted.

Well that's normally how I go about songs.

I still consider "Kiss From A Rose" a 1995 song even though the Album was released in the Summer of 1994.  Also "Move This" by Technotronic was a hit in Late 1992 although the Album was released in 1989  :o

;)

Yes, Seal's "Kiss From A Rose" was definitely a 1995 hit. It was immensely popular that summer, since it was part of the soundtrack to the "Batman Forever" movie. The only hit that Seal had in '94 was "Prayer For The Dying"...I knew I'd think of more good songs after I made my original post!

As I stated, it was released as a single in 1994, so if you don't accept the year the album it is on as the year, I think that should more than cover it.

I tend to associate songs with when they were singles. That doesn't mean people weren't listening to it before then, but it was more popular after it was a single.

Heck, sometimes for megahit albums, they'll span THREE years. For instance, Thriller the album was released in late 1982, but the single "Thriller" was early 1984! Or Billy Joel's An Innocent Man album was in '83, but "Keeping the Faith" wasn't released as a single until early '85.

So technically, they're both sorta correct. :)

BTW, doesn't it seem that pop was more dominant than rock as a whole in 1994? It's kinda the opposite of 1993. Both years had the same overall musical template, but '93 leaned more on rock and grunge. I know most of the stuff I was listening to in '94 was pop or ballads.

Sure, there was "Black Hole Sun", "No Excuses" and other grunge rock, but I associate 1994 much more with "The Sign", and "Can You Feel the Love Tonight".

Good picks. Yeah, I seem to remember listening to a lot more pop/R&B than rock back then. Mostly because the station(s) I primarily listened to played a lot of pop. What's interesting is that at the time, I didn't know a few songs that were popular then. "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden...I sorta wish I knew that one when it came out. Again, I might think of more later.

That's different b/c at the time, artists took longer periods between albums, so we heard many songs from one album until the next. Nowadays, musicians (if I can call them that) put out one a year to the point of ad nauseum that you only get 1-4 singles off the album.
