yes..I used to watch it all the time on TGIF.  Steve Urkel was funny at first...but when he got to be an adult and still playing the part....it was a bit much. ::)

I became a fan of the show in 1991, during the show's third season. Steve Urkel was the main reason I watched...I thought he was a crackup! :D However, there were other things about the other characters that I liked...and most of the eps I've seen have had interesting storylines.

Honestly, I never really liked Family Matters, but I did watch it all the time.  It was a stupid show, but you couldn't help but watch it.  I wish they still showed reruns of it on TBS

yeah, they took it off there a long time ago! :o :( TBS also used to show reruns of "Full House" and "Fresh Prince"...now they show more modern sitcoms like "Drew Carey", "Friends", "Seinfeld" and "Everyone Loves Raymond."

Yup, I watched this show on TGIF every week, religiously.  It was set in my hometown, so that was an aspect of the show I always liked.

I believe the Fox Family channel still airs reruns, I remember in particular the episodes where Urkel used a machine of some sort to turn him into Stefan Urquelle, a less clumsy version of himself.

yes...and for the record, it's ABC Family Channel now. It's been that way for maybe the last three or four years.

And now, more than 2 years later, it's now on Nick At Nite. I just watched an episode from 1992 the other night.

I loved the show!!!!!! Steve was the reason about 85% of the people watching the show watched it.  :)

I am still waiting for it to come to DVD.  I will definately get it.  'Family Matters' remains one of the longest running spin-offs ever, just behind 'The Jeffersons' and (technically) 'Happy Days'

That's right, during its first season, Urkel was not a main character yet. As I recall, they originally intended to use him as a one-time character...but the viewers thought he was so funny that they made him a regular. When I started watching the show regularly, I mainly watched for him.

Anyone remember that time where Steve Urkel crossed over many different tv shows?  I know he was on Full House but he was also on other shows.

I did like Family Matters when it was on, especially the earlier seasons.  Later it got "Honey I shrunk the Kid" ridiculous with all the clonings.

Yes, he guest-appeared on episode #84 of "Full House" (early 1991). He also appeared on an episode of "Step By Step" in late 1991, when he did his 'Urkel Dance'.

That concept was illustrated literally in an episode with his transformation chamber. He and Carl got shrunk down to a quarter-inch tall in one episode, and they were stuck on the counter table in the kitchen. And I think the cloning may have been from the last season, also involving the transformation chamber. Steve cloned himself so that he and Stefan could exist at the same time. He may have had one or two other alter egos, including his cousin Myrtle.

Yeah, Urkel and his wacky inventions.  I do believe he did that because that girl who had a crush on Steve wanted him and Laura wanted Stephen.  Another illustration on the silliness was when Carl and Steve cleaned house Bruce Lee style at a bar at the end of one episode.  I can see Carl taking down a person or two, but Steve? :D

Was it a spinoff of Perfect Strangers?  I always thought it was a spinoff of a show that lasted a season or two.

The girl who had a crush on Steve was Myra Monkhouse, who was introduced in 1993. She liked Steve just the way he was, but Laura liked him better as Stefan. Myra was played by actress Michelle Thomas, who actually died in December 1998 at age 29. :\'(

Yeah, it was originally a spinoff of Perfect Strangers, which lasted into the early 90's.

That's tragic, I thought she was cute.

It was yes.  Harriet Winslow was the elevator operator at the Chicago Chronicle where Larry and Balki worked.  The idea of 'Family Matters' was to focus on her life at home with her cop husband and their 3 children, the family she often talked about at the Chronicle

After the episode in which Harriet lost her job at the Chronicle, it was never again mentioned or referenced that 'Perfect Strangers' basically existed, but in a 1997 episode, Mark Linn-Baker made a guest appearance, but didn't play Larry Appleton, as he had done previously on 'Perfect Strangers'

Family Matters.  That show took me back.  I was 12 years old when it first premiered in 1989, 20 years ago.  I remember the youngest one too which was played by Jamie Foxworth but because of her contract, she left in 1993, and then years later, she became a porn star.  She was also featured in Tevin Campbell's video "Tomorrow".  She was one of the choir members.

I don't know.  All I know according to information that I researched that she was no longer on the show because of some dispute with her contract.  I think that Wikipedia will explain best, but that's the main reason why you didn't see her in the show anymore in 1993 and after.

yea i remember seeing her on reruns i didn't start watching the show till around mid 1994 I'm guessing they just cut her out with no explanation kinda odd they could have shipped her off to some school far away or maby killed her off or had her live with her grandparents or something

I'm sort of a "How in the hell does he know that????" kind of guy.

The never gave an explanation for Judy's disappearance.    She was just gone one day as if she never existed.

If you remember correctly, Rachel and Little Richie were gone for quite some time too.  There was a long period of time where they were cut out of the opening credits and didn't appear on the show.  I can remember the exact show where they made a come back as Carl was in a department store shopping for some toys and mentioning that his nephew Richie was going to moving back in with his mom.

I once hear Reginald Vel Johnson (Carl Winslow) give a interview in which he spoke about "Family Matters".  He said that the shows original intention was to be a more serious show that dealt with true Family problems, but with Jaleel White stealing the show early on and going from a one time appearance to the main attraction of the show, it turned into a sit-com.    They were still able to hit some serious topics such as Drinking, racial prejudice, and guns.

The show had it's very corny moments, and it's moments of just awful acting but it also had a lot of great moments and educational ones as well.

I'm sure anyone that was a fan of the show was moved by more than an episode or two.

The house that was used for "Family Matters" is still standing....

I believe the real house is a two-family.
