I assume I'm not alone in remembering this machine God!
I remember they were pretty expensive (at least as far as we were concerned, being mere whipper snappers at the time) but there were a couple of kids who's parents bought one for them. They of course became very popular overnight.
Sonic was of course what everybody wanted to play, but I can also remember a whole host of arcade to home system rip offs and some great Mortal Kombat/Street Fighter style games.
Did anybody else have a Megadrive obsession?

My brother had one, and I played it often.  The best game(s) that system ever made was the Streets of Rage Trilogy
