Subject: When will the 90s become old fashioned?

Written By: EyesWideAsleep on 11/18/07 at 8:59 pm

I think it will be sometime in the 2020s for the early 90s, and the 2030s for the late 90s. I think by the end of the '10s, 1990 will seem like a very long time ago, but 1999 will still be almost semi-current. By the end of the '20s, the entire 90s (and all the 20th century) will be old fashioned.

I think it will be on September 25th, 2023 at 6:18 pm PST that the early 90s officially become old fashioned, and April 1st, 2031 for the late 90s. And yeah, by December 31st, 2019, 1990 will be 29 years old. 1999 semi-current then? I think it will be mostly current with only sparse hints of irrelevancy, sprinkled with showers of forgoten-ness, with a midnight low of December 16th, 1998.

I'm looking foward to the 2020s because then grunge music (only pre 1994 grunge) will be on golden oldie stations. . .

That is pretty funny, even if you're being sarcastic.  :D

Thank you! I was being serious about grunge being "golden oldie" music in the future.

But is 2004 more like 1987 or is 1987 more like 1972?  And if so, how will 2019 be compared to 1992.  Will it have elements of 1984 or elements of 2001?

OK, i'm officially an ass :-[

To be honest, the '90s are already old fashioned. I mean, being the 1990 was almost 20 years ago already makes it kinda old.

I actually think it will be in the next coming decade--since 80s nostalgia is pretty strong right now.

You're very close! Actually 2004 was more like the new 1988. You're off by just 1 year, lol. 2003 was supposed to be the new 1987 but it ended up being more like 1991, so 2007 took the place of being the new 1987 (they just traded places). 2006 was definitely like 1990.

All joking aside, I think that during the 2010's things will be very retro 90's as there will be a lot of nostalgia for the 90's, as there was nostalgia for the 80's in the 00's. By the 2020's, the 90's will be oldies but still goodies, as the 70's are now. I still like to listen to Earth, Wind, and Fire and the other funkadelic hits from the 70's. In a way, the 90's really feel old now especially watching "I Love the 90's" on Vh-1 when it shows clips from 1994 or so. I can't believe it was that long ago.
