Of those you posted, I only know Republica's "Ready To Go." Interestingly enough, I did NOT know that record at the time it was released...even though I was keeping up with just about all the songs that were hits in the U.S. that year.

Some good ones mentioned so far :)

Fool's Garden - Lemon Tree (1996)
Bubbled under the US Chart, but was Top 40 in many markets including the UK, Netherlands, Canada, Germany, etc.  Do you remember it?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCDIt50hRDs

Breathe - Say A Prayer (1990)
Forgot they had 90s hits?  You're forgiven lol
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FeG99Z71BU

Collage - I'll Be Loving You (1993)
Great freestyle classic!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIdrGedDHe4

Jude Cole - Baby It's Tonight (1992)
Wasn't his only hit either.  He had many after this, but this was his biggest and best remembered for those who do remember.  Do you?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7BkKSrowws

Robbie Nevil - Just Like You (1991)
A typical response:  "I remember this song, but I didn't know it was him.  I thought he was an 80s one hit wonder"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQA0XgNd9O8

Restless Heart - When She Cries (1993)
Oh yeah, you remember this.  Perhaps you knew it was Restless Heart, or many you didn't.  Regardless you never really hear talk of them anymore, and from the vault of great 90s classics, this song is still beautiful
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DvSevNz0Oc

Mary Chapin-Carpenter - Passionate Kisses (1993)
You don't really have to know Country music to know this one.  It was a massive radio hit.  Up until a few years ago, I'd totally forgotten about it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHzUWHcJdtk

Mike + the Mechanics - Everybody Gets A Second Chance (1991)
For me, this is a forgotten one.  In America, the Mechanics fell out of the chart as the 90s came, so for the longest time, I thought this was true for Canada as well until I found an old CD compilation titled 'This is Music 92' which featured this song.  One listen, and right away, I knew it.  To my surprise, I soon discovered that the Mechanics kept very much alive in Canada during the 90s with several hits
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_9RBDlEbxM

Some for my fellow Canucks (or what could be some new favourites for those of you who don't know these) ...

Celine Dion - Have A Heart (1991)
Released as a single in Canada only and for me, it's a forgotten track.  I was driving home from Toronto earlier this year and heard this on the radio and totally remembered and still loved it.  Oddly enough, I didn't even recognize it was Celine's voice until the DJ said what the song was.  When I got home, I went straight to LimeWire to get it.  This song formed a new opinion for me on Celine Dion.  Whether you like her music or not, you have to admit this song is beauiful
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1E1BfGGRhv4

Ivan - Open Your Eyes (1997)
Recognize this voice?  You should!  It's Ivan Doroschuk, lead singer of Men Without Hats.  Don't know if this charted outside of Canada, but within Canada, I know there are many who totally forgot he had a brief solo career.  Up until last year, I was one of those many LOL
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3X5wFtjhAK4

World on Edge - Still Beating (1990)
They had one of the greatest short-lived successes in Canadian music history.  Though their 1990 self-titled debut album failed to make an impact world-wide and barely broke the Canadian charts, it produced 7 hit singles in Canada, 6 of which reached the Top 40
http://www.hollywoodupclose.com/video/music/Still_Beating_World_On_Edge/#54621

Boulevard - Lead Me On (1990)
This group broke into the Canadian charts in 1988 with the popular Top 40 hits 'Never Give Up', 'Far From Over' and 'Dream On', still remembered by some, but forgotten by many.  Those who do remember, but probably don't remember any others, or atleast not by title.  Here's a golden oldie, their 4th hit, and last Top 40 hit in their brief career ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k-Y3z4Tzj8

The Box - Carry On (1990)
Like Boulevard, The Box were a band known in the 80s, but their 90s work is somewhat forgotten.  Did they hafve hits in the 90s?  Oh yeah ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7a-nG4QLdFs

Intonation featuring Joeé - (I Just) Died in Your Arms (1995)
Remember that really cool freestyle version of that old Cutting Crew classic that dominated radio in the mid 90s?  Oh yeah baby!  Forget hip-hop and grunge, this was my kind of music in the 90s!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nz-NJPEwnJc&feature=related

Big House - Dollar in My Pocket (Pretty Things) (1992)
Canadian hair rock bands.  We had 'em and this song was a massive radio favourite, despite it not becoming a Top 40 hit.  You remember it, come on now
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2HuPMicgLw

Carol Medina - Tell Me You Love Me (1994)
Dance music still dominating in Canada.  This song was massive and still a favourite of mine!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yWPA3M5eqA

Yakoo Boyz - Pipe Dreamz (1995)
Bagpipe songs were popular chart favourites in the 70s, but could one survive in the 90s?  Add a dance beat to it, and you bet it can!  Was a popular sports anthem in arenas across Canada, but not remembered by most until it's heard again.  So here it is to hear again ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8PPsZ6nxV0

Robbie Robertson - What About Now (1991)
Featuring Aaron Neville on backing vocals.  This was his biggest solo hit in Canada, but surprisingly not that remembered and very overshadowed by his 80s hit 'Somewhere Down the Crazy River', which btw remaisn his least successful single in Canada
http://noolmusic.com/music_video/robbie_robertson_-_what_about_now.php

Candi and the Backbeat - The World Just Keeps on Turning (1990)
From 1988-1991, she released 2 albums that spawned 4 hits in Canada.  To this day, she is still a forgotten artist to many, but the songs are still remembered
http://noolmusic.com/music_video/candi_-_world_just_keeps_turning_the.php

Paul Janz - Every Little Tear (1990)
Most Canadian songs are often forgotten, but this gem still lives on.  Whether you remember Paul Janz or not, this song was all over the radio in the 90s, so if you don't remember this song, you didn't own a radio and you never watched MuchMusic.  It was his biggest hit

I think it was difficult for UK bands to score high in the American charts in 1995.  Things changed a bit in 1997.  I am surprised you dont know the Soup Dragons - They had two decent hits.  You may know I'm Free.

Whistle Dog, thanks for laying out the massive hits again.

Fools Garden - Lemon Tree is virtually unknown in the US.  I only know this song since last year because I was dating a girl from Mexico.  She introduced me to the song last year and said it was a big hit in Mexico.

Collage as well as alot of Freestyle is good stuff.

Jude Cole - Baby Its Tonight.  This is why i started this thread, I am trying to get my hands on all the good old tunes from the 90's.  I forgot about this one.  I havent heard it in years. Thank you.

As far as the Canadian tunes, being from the US, I dont know any of them.  However,  the Ivan song is an interesting dichotomy of slow lyrics and fast tunes.  At first it seemed strange, but it grew on me by the end of the song.  Do you know where i can get a copy?

Paul Janz is virtually unknown here as well.  I didnt know this song, but it is good. Thanks.

I like Weirdo by the Charlatans UK

I know Happy Mondays Step On.  Good song!

If I have a copy, I can send it to you, but I don't know if I ever got it on mp3.

That Jude Cole one is definately a 90s classic.  I heard it on the radio about 3 years ago and rushed right out and found a cassette copy of the album at goodwill.  Jude Cole had 7 hits.  Surprisingly his songs performed better in Canada than his homeland ...

No prob, midnite.  In the early ninties, with nowhere else to turn, I turned to "modern rock".  Before grunge took over my station.  Seems strange what was considered modern rock.  Seal and Prince..? ???

Somebody please tell me they remember a song called "Magic" by a band called CUD (aka. the Cud Band).  Early 90s...

Can't find it even mentioned on YouTube...

That was used in Trailers for American Pie yes.  It was their sole hit in the U.S. where it failed to reach the Top 40, but it was 1 of 19 Top 40 hits total they had in their native UK before lead singer Tim Booth left the band in 2002.  Now with Booth back in the fold, James just released 'Hey Ma', their (10th and) first studio album since 2001.

someone gave me a DVD-r with dozens upon dozens of albums, singles and bootlegs of theirs a few years back.  so many mp3s and just no way to listen to it all.  they always struck me a bit like Chumbawumba in the sense that they had been releasing albums for years before they had a major hit, and then just faded right back into obscurity.

The Flaming Lips - "She Don't Use Jelly"
they're more popular now, but I doubt anyone remembers their first Mtv appearance.  I have the CD single for it.

green jelly - three little pigs
This was a total novelty thing, but still kind of funny

Luscious Jackson - Naked Eye
I don't think this was popular, but I still liked it.  The version I have on a CMJ sampler I still haven't heard anywhere else. a friend of mine bought the album based on that song and found the album version to be like this video one, a little anemic.

Veruca Salt - Seether
Never really knew what that song was about, but the band was named after a Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory character

Breeders - Cannonball
Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain cited their previous album as a big favorite and wondered why Kim Deal wasn't featured more in the Pixies. I have to agree.

spacehog - in the meantime
Such a fantastic song, and a fantastic album, they deserved to be bigger.

Harvey Danger - Flagpole Sitta
Really funny lyrics, I have all their albums, even the one they gave away for free, I bought the CD from the fan club with the free t-shirt.

King Missile - Detachable Penis
I have this video on a VHS collection... It did used to get played on the radio in the Boston area, but only after 10pm. no idea why they never went further.

Mad Season - River Of Deceit
This was an Alice in Chains spin off... not sure if this was ever popular, but the whole album is quite well done.  Drugs claim another great performer

someone should start an inthe00s playlist on youtube for these...

In a sense, they had.  James formed in 1983.  Their debut album was in 1986, but it wasn't until 1992 that they became stars in the UK when a re-release of their 1989 single 'Sit Down' reached #2.  Their success lasted much longer than Chumbawumba's did.  Speaking of Chumbawumba, I totally forgot about them until you mentioned them ;D

As mentioned by others, this is a great song by a pretty good band.  Check out their other songs - Born Of Frustration, Come Home, and Seven.

The Flaming Lips - "She Don't Use Jelly"
they're more popular now, but I doubt anyone remembers their first Mtv appearance.  I have the CD single for it.

Yes, when Flaming Lips first emerged, they seemed kinda goofy.  They have a couple of good albums.  Good song.

I have never heard of King Missle.  My brother was a Mad Season Fan.

I know and like all of the other songs.  Good forgotten gems!

"From Your Mouth" - God Lives Underwater

Well now you guys are definitely speaking my language.   :)

Some of mine:

Cake - Let Me Go + I Will Survive
Pearl Jam - Leaving Here + Yellow Ledbetter + I Got Id
Matthew Sweet - Girlfriend
Fun Lovin' Criminals - Scooby Snacks
Oasis - Don't Look Back In Anger
Save Ferris - Come On Eileen
Seven Mary Three - Cumbersome
Timmy T - One More Try
Positive K - I Got A Man
Bell Biv DeVoe - Do Me

DJ Wonderbread, this is a great list - My favorites above.  I guess we liked the same music in the 90s, well almost.  I know them all - except A'me Lorain and Joey McIntire..  For Bel Bive Devoe, I prefer Poison and for Oasis, I prefer anything from the first amazing album  such as Rock N Roll Star or Cigarettes And Alcohol.

LOL.  When I meant Forgotten, I mean most people probably dont remember them.  I am a music-nerd and have alot of songs, so songs I have an remember may not apply to the general popular.  Comprendes?  Plus, some of these songs, I did forget about.  Then when people post, they remind me.  Therefore at that moment of enlightenment, I remember them!

Those are all good tunes you list too!  Thanks.

For all you dance / trance fans:

1. Disco Citizens (Chicane) - Nagasaki Badger   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhmyo-H7EZU
Arguably my favorite trance track.  If you can't handle the long intro (which is key by the way) then skip to 4:00 and let it run for a few minutes. Trust Me.   Yeah!!!

2. Grace (BT) - Not Over Yet    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtc4L6GGkVM
BT is my favorite DJ/Dance Artist/Remixer. The guy is amazing.  This version is actually remixed in 2000, but the song is from 1996.

3. Hybrid - Finished Symphony    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xt4GUquIzhU
Another great dance dj know for their "strings."   From 1999.  The strings beginning at  3:20 blow my mind.  I love this song!

4.  Three Drives On A Vinyl - Greece 2000.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uo7BGatzXio
Classic track from 90s Ibiza.  I wish I were there!

Jude Cole - Baby It's Tonight (1992)
Wasn't his only hit either.  He had many after this, but this was his biggest and best remembered for those who do remember.  Do you?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7BkKSrowws

Restless Heart - When She Cries (1993)
Oh yeah, you remember this.  Perhaps you knew it was Restless Heart, or many you didn't.  Regardless you never really hear talk of them anymore, and from the vault of great 90s classics, this song is still beautiful
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DvSevNz0Oc

The Offspring - Why Don't You Get A Job

I love all of these! :)

I vaguely remember seeing "Start the Car" by Jude Cole on VH1, for some reason I remembered the guy's name even though I wasn't that into the song. A few years ago I heard "Baby it's Tonight" for the first time and loved it. It sounds like more stripped down '80s pop/rock, but just alot of fun.

"Why Don't You Get a Job" is my favorite song from the Americana album. Not only is it funny and catchy, I like the poppy ska sound. It's not something you'd expect them to do.

Here's some I can think of (although some are kinda '80s hangovers):

Where the River Flows - Collective Soul
It Hit Me Like a Hammer - Huey Lewis
A bunch of Paula Abdul songs - Vibeology, Will You Marry Me, Ain't Never Gonna Give You Up...oh what the heck, pretty much everything off Spellbound and lots of the Head Over Heels album too. ;)
Love is All Around - Wet Wet Wet
Head Over Feet  - Alanis Morisette
Faithful - Go West
Everything About You - Ugly Kid Joe (it's so funny, he's being sarcastically p*ssed off)
Always the Last to Know - Del Amitri
Even a Fool Can See - Peter Cetera
Let's Get Rocked - Def Leppard
Jumper - Third Eye Blind
Give it Up - Wilson Phillips
Do You Believe in Us - Jon Secada

I love this song

King Missile - Detachable Penis One of my all time favs
I have this video on a VHS collection... It did used to get played on the radio in the Boston area, but only after 10pm. no idea why they never went further.

Mad Season - River Of Deceit
This was an Alice in Chains spin off... not sure if this was ever popular, but the whole album is quite well done.  Drugs claim another great performer

Right on, I remember "My Side of the Bed", "Restless Heart" and "Found Out About You" from VH1 back then too, and always liked them. Never heard of most of the others offhand, though.

I think some of the best songs from the early-mid '90s were from 80s singers who were fading (like Cetera and the Bangles) so it didn't get as popular, and people have almost totally forgotten them now. The cool thing about that I guess, though, is that they haven't gotten overplayed.

Some big hits from our charts. I don't expect you to know 'em all.

Beckie Bell - Steppin' Out Tonight (#4, 1992)

Here's some "Peace - Love - Unity - And Having Fun" (in twofold)
Rebel MC - Better World (#10, 1990)
Chad Jackson - Hear The Drummer (Get Wicked) (#3, 1990)

Sailor - La Cumbia (#6, 1991)
What?!  :o Sailor had hits in the 1990's? ...Bet you didn't know that. ::)

From the late great John Larkin... :\'(
Scatman John - Scatman (Ski-ba-bop-ba-dop-bop) (#2, 1995)

And one more that spent 10 weeks at #1 over here:
Vangelis - Conquest of Paradise (1995)

I can do a few, which is not bad for me, considering it's the 90s... :D

Here's some "Peace - Love - Unity - And Having Fun" (in twofold)
Rebel MC - Better World (#10, 1990)
Chad Jackson - Hear The Drummer (Get Wicked) (#3, 1990)

The first was a minor hit here, overshadowed by the earlier two with Double Trouble (which sound horrifically dated now!)
The Chad Jackson (a world DJ champ, if memory serves) effort was tiresome, to say the least...
As was Don Pablo's Animals weary re-hash of 'Venus'...

Sailor - La Cumbia (#6, 1991)
What?!  :o Sailor had hits in the 1990's? ...Bet you didn't know that. ::)

Certainly didn't! I'll stick with their 70s efforts, thanks!

And one more that spent 10 weeks at #1 over here:
Vangelis - Conquest of Paradise (1995)

Not only that, but it remains one of Germany's highest-selling singles!

"Cut Cut Cut...Tell me somethin'... You can't play bass"  :D

I still like those tracks. Does that make me dated as well..? :-\\

Maybe repetitive, but tiresome...I have to disagree.

I'm not familiar with that version.

They had a brief reunion in the early 1990's, but they failed momentum. This was their only 1990's hit over here.

Not only that, but it remains one of Germany's highest-selling singles!

I'm not surprised. I've always enjoyed listening to it. 8)

Considering I'm somewhat 'rooted' in the 60s & 70s, I'd say I'm probably more dated than you'll ever be!

I'm not familiar with that version.

Same old, same old...the classic tune with loads of what sounds like James Brown samples...blame the Italians, they were responsible!

Isn't it amazing how one song/tune can be big in one country and do nothing in the other? I've often wondered why that is - but of course there's no real answer to the question. It's just luck, I guess.

As Paul says, that is an 80s song yes.  It was a Top 40 hit on US Modern Rock, but it failed to generate success in the US Hot 100.  I read a book once where it mentioned that even though it only made the rock chart, it was her only charting single in North America.  Don't ya love it when books give wrong information lol ...

In Canada, 'Twist in My Sobriety' was a Top 40 hit, and in 1990, she charted again with the minor hit 'We Almost Got it Together'.  That's it, that's all.  Oddly enough in the UK, it was her 2nd and final Top 40 hit.  Despite many charting UK singles throughout the 90s, she never saw the top 40 again

I did before on another thread for two songs, I think Quirk or Tam found one of them(Anywhere But Here by Raging Slab) but the other is a stumper.

I only remember the lyrics from the chorus which are: Kitty and Cleo(At least that's what it sounds like).

I tried this combo on Google and Youtube, no luck at all. Also mixed other words like lyrics and song into the search. Chances are the song title might be different.

And speaking of Cowboy Junkies, did anyone post this one:

I like that one... as well as their follow-up single, "The Globe." What I like about that one is that it samples "Should I Stay Or Should I Go" by the Clash; Mick Jones (not to be confused with the same-named guy from Foreigner!) had written "Should I Stay Or Should I Go?" when he was with The Clash.

I often find that 90s songs by Mike + the Mechanics are largely forgotten simply because they fell out of the US chart completely.  The one that stands out for me most was their 1991 single 'Everybody Gets A Second Chance', which despite not reaching the UK Top 40, did reach #21 in Canada

Yeah SWV had 3 other hits like "Downtown", I'm So Into You", and "Always On My Mind". On another interesting note "Weak" in 1993 made it to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in late July 1993 for a single week I think.

Love that one. When I first heard it (maybe 10 yrs or so ago) I didn't know what it was called or who performed it...but after they played part of it at the end of the movie "Mean Girls", I looked it up on IMDB.com and found out the info. I was also surprised to find out that it only came out 15 years ago. It has a nice meditational sound to it, with a techno-beat that goes on for a while. Overall, that record is great to listen to...
9 minutes of pure excellence. :)

I have a mix of "Halcyon On And On" that includes the vocals of Opus III's "It's A Fine Day", which is sampled throughout the track (La la la la la dee da la la...or whatever it is).

This was a good band that got some modest airplay on hard rock stations in the early/mid 90's but never quite broke out:

I never heard the Brother Cane or Buffalo Tom songs before.  They aren't bad.  The Brother Cane song has a slight "Alice In Chains" vibe to it.  Thanks for the post.

I just spent an hour perusing all the great songs on this post. I do not believe these are repeats:

Mike Ness - Ballad Of A Lonely Man  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kt84Bb6lJrs
I love the ex-Social Distortion frontman's solo works.  I love the rockabillyish rock stylings.

Better Than Ezra - Rosealia    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hl3gv30c87o
Their debut album was awesome and everyone knows "Good," but this is my favorite song of theirs.

Eagle Eye Cherry - Falling In Love Again  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgtN1E2kHmU
His big hit was "Save Tonight," but I always preferred this song.

Gabrielle - Dreams    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79GSriibjvE
I always preferred this original version over the dance remix.

Lush - Ladykillers    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFpDfa-C6w4
I do not believe this charted in the US, but it is a fun song.

Mary's Danish - Don't Crash The Car Tonight  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXmxf9izkcA

Morphine - Honey White  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJv7Y8KvCqo
I really enjoyed their first few albums.

The Verve - Lucky Man  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d89n4Pfp53w
Maybe its not forgotten, but it is an amazing song off of an amazing album.

Arling & Cameron - W.E.E.K.E.N.D.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiuXxjTusNo
YOU CAN'T NOT LOVE THIS SONG.  I am pretty sure it was released in very late 1999.

As a songwriter, he's written many well-known hits for other artists, but as a solo artist, he only had 2 hits.  In the 80s, he was lead singer for a band called Q-Feel whose 1983 hit 'Dancing in Heaven (Orbital Be-Bop)' was a club favourite, and a US Hot 100 hit when re-released in 1989 (it originally bubbled under the US Hot 100 in 1983)

As queer as it may seem now, TLC was my favorite group in the 90's. All the way from 1992 - 2003. And I had all 4 of their albums, and still know every song they ever made.

And there were a lot of songs that were never really known to much of the public, but if they were, they're definitely forgotten. These are the ones I like the most.

On their first album, their hits were Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg, Baby Baby Baby, Hat 2 Da Back, and what About Your Friends.

Other good songs are Das Da Way We Like 'Em, Shock Dat Monkey, His Story, and This Is How It Should Be Done.

On their second album the hit songs were Creep, Waterfalls, Diggin' On you, and Red Light Special.
A couple good ones were Case Of The Fake People, Somethin' Wicked This Way Comes, and If I Was Your Girlfriend.
(The only thing I remember about "If I Was Your Girlfriend" was "Sha da da da da da daaaa."

I was never too interested in their other albums except for the hits like Unpretty and No Scrubs.

Yeah, that album was entitled CrazySexyCool, and it sold an abundance of copies. I liked all four of the tracks that were hits; I remember "Diggin On You" was a big hit in late 1995. And then Weird Al recorded a parody of "Waterfalls" entitled "Phony Calls", the instrumental break of which featured a Bart Simpson crank call from a Simpsons episode.

Yep I remember the name of it. Could never forget  ;)

My friends and I, used to label CrazySexyCool as the TLC girls... which I'm not sure if that's what the purpose of the name was, but we used to identify
Left Eye - Crazy
Chilli - Sexy
T-Boz - Cool

They all fit those descriptions, but by crazy for left eye I mean eccentric and fun.

Yes, 1995 was the CrazySexyCool year definitely.
When it started we had Creep at the top of the charts

Then few months later comes Red Light Special, and for the summer we had Waterfalls.

Then afterwards, we had Diggin' On You.
Loved 'em all!

It started playing around the radio sometime in the late winter of my freshman year in highschool, and then sometime later that summer i started to understand it.

yeah, you must've been in high school the same years as me. My freshman year was 1994-95, and "Run Away" was definitely popular during the latter part of the winter. I remember it very well.

I love that one. 8) I was 10 years old at the time it was popular, just starting the 5th grade...but the interesting thing is, I didn't know that song at all back then. In fact, I never heard it for the first time until just a few years ago. It's a great dance tune.

I remember that one too...from my senior year in high school. She never had any success after that one. :-\\

Good song though. I wish you knew more lyrics or could give more info.  Judging from your other song, I am guessing it is obsure.

Update on that(along time since your post). I misheard the lyrics.

It was this song:

It's Kenny and Cleo by the Black Market Flowers. It didn't get alot of airplay, but it always stuck in my head. Now I have the challenge of trying to find it(or someone who can burn it to a CD for me).

Good choice. I think Imani has been having success lately in a music duo named 'Little Jackie'. They were featured artists a few months back on MySpace, and their song 'The World Should Revolve Around Me' was the theme to the VH1 show 'New York Goes To Hollywood', and the video recieved play on VH1 also.

Great song!!!!!    This song apparently was a HUGE hit OUTSIDE of the US.  Nobody I know from the USA knows the song.  My friends from Germany and Mexico introduced me to this song a few years ago.  Apparently, it was successful in those places.

I know it was big in Germany and the UK.  It even cracked the Top 40 in Canada.  Shame the States didn't catch on.  IT really is a wonderful song.  Beautiful melody and it's fun to sing along to :)

Additionally, there is a great remix over the music to Pat Benetar's "Love is a battlefield". I have on mp3 but cant find video.

One that really comes to mind and I just downloaded is "All For You" by Sister Hazel (I heard this on the radio and had to google it 'cause I thought it was a Counting Crows song. It sounds mid 90s too and I could've sworn I heard it then when I still lived in Sacramento, but it's actually 1997).

I love alot of the ones people have already mentioned, here's some more (mostly from '91-97) that don't seem to be that common anymore:

any Jon Secada song besides "Just Another Day"
Mr Jones - Counting Crows
No Son of Mine - Genesis
Can't Stop my Heart From Loving You- Aaron Neville
Where the River Flows - Collective Soul
Here Comes the Hotstepper (it's ironic that this was a huge hip hop song, but it's forgotten now)
Faithful - Go West
I Believe - Blessid Union of Souls (I'm surprised this one isn't still popular, it was a nice r&b pop ballad with a good message too)
Far Behind - candlebox
Take This Heart - Richard Marx
Give it Up - Wilson Phillips
Do it To Me - Lionel Richie
Everything About You - Ugly Kid Joe (humorous hair metal but in a 90s way)
Love is All Around-Wet Wet Wet
Good for Me - Amy Grant
Follow You Down - Gin Blossoms
If I Ever Lose My Faith in you - Sting (that's his best non Police song, imo)
Running Back to You - Vanessa Williams
Why Dont You Get a Job, Gotta Get Away, and Gone Away - Offspring
Even Better Than the Real Thing, and Tryin' to Throw Your Arms Around the World - U2
Love and Understanding - Cher
Cant Stop This Thing We Started-Bryan Adams
Welcome to Paradise -Green Day
Lift Me Up - Howard Jones
Countdown - Lindsey Buckingham
Will You Be There - MJ (from the Dangerous album, haven't heard it on the radio in awhile)
The Motown Song - Rod Stewart
Cream, Diamonds and Pearls, and Money Dont Matter 2nite - Prince
Breaking the Girl - Red Hot Chilipeppers
6th Avenue Heartache - Wallflowers
Lets Get Rocked - Def Leppard
Live and Learn - Joe Public (I usually didnt like hip hop, esp as a kid, but this is catchy)
It Hit Me Like a Hammer- Huey Lewis
Blowing Kisses in the Wind, Vibeology, Aint Never Gonna Give You Up - all Paula Abdul ;)

These are all such good songs! Some of them were majorly popular. I used to love Shy Guy by Diana King because she sounded Jamaican and had a good way with words.

I agree with almost all of them being forgotten... except maybe for Semi-Charmed life is still around a little bit. Along with No Diggity.

I think you made a tiny mistake with Finally by CeCe Peniston. I could be wrong but I always think of 1992 when I hear it.

Where My Girls At? - 702 was a good uppity R&B song back in the late 90's.

Good list!

My ipod just got updated because my nephew loved 90's music, and has almost 300 songs from the 90's on it. However, I'm not gonna take time to write them all down.

I think it was either 1992 or '93. Maybe our old friend, the "..." guest, could confirm this for us (but we haven't seen him in ages). It was definitely popular when I was in junior high, I know that much.

Yeah, I watched VH1 alot in the early '90s and sometimes MTV. That's the only way I knew alot of those songs (come to think of it, when I was about 10 I watched videos more than I listened to the radio, lol).

I think you'd like Prince's Diamonds and Pearls album, you seem like a new jack swing fan. I'm normally not into U2 but I like that Achtung Baby album (my mom had it, so I heard all the songs back then), it's like dark but catchy alternative pop.

Luscious Jackson - Naked Eye
I don't think this was popular, but I still liked it.  The version I have on a CMJ sampler I still haven't heard anywhere else. a friend of mine bought the album based on that song and found the album version to be like this video one, a little anemic.

That's a goodie! 1997 right? It was popular. I just looked on the 1997 billboards and it reached #81 so it did okay. But I remember that one and I liked it. I think it was a summer of '97 hit but I'm not sure.

I never understood what it was about though.

I remember the chorus "With my naked eye I saw all the falling rain, coming down on me" and the pre chorus "And it feels alright" and the very first verse "Last night I came into your home, to break some ice and throw some stones"

Yep, 1997. It was probably #81 for the year, but on the US Billboard Hot 100 it got to #36. It was their only big hit; I'm tempted to think of them as a one hit wonder. But I do love the song.

TLC (my favorite group  ;D) is definitely not a forgotten group, especially the tragedy with Left Eye which lives on forever. I still hear No Scrubs and Creep on the radio. People still remember Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg and nobody who was around in the 90's will ever forget Waterfalls. But a forgotten TLC song is What About Your Friends. That was, and is my favorite song by them overall. It was on the billboards both 1992 and 1993. I'm sad that people don't remember or even acknowledge it anymore. It had more meaning than most of their songs, especially to me because I had a lot of drama with my friends back in middle school when it was popular.

Edit - About the conversation before about Luscious Jackson - Naked eye. I said it was a 1997 song, but I found out the album it's on Fever In, Fever Out was actually released October 17, 1996. It really doesn't matter so much, but I wanted to correct myself. The very first time I heard it, was in 1997 and it was around spring or summertime. I must have been late on hearing it unless the song actually didn't hit the radio until then?  :-\\

It's a shame his popular music career didn't last long.  He did have a few other hits in his native Canada, but nothing that would outlast the successful career his dad had

I hear that one frequently on the radio here in the U.S., but none of his other songs. Ironically, though, I didn't know the song at all at the time it was popular. (Maybe because I didn't listen to much music then.)

I don't know if this song counts. "You Get What You Give" by The New Radicals. I remember at the time, thinking that this was a pretty good song, but lumped it together with those other late 90's goofy pop/rock songs. Nowadays, I feel it's a cut above those songs. It just really kicks ass to me nowadays.

Sure! It came out in late 1998/early 1999. I still hear it on the radio these days.

Here's Leila K's 1993 cover of Plastic Bertrand's 1978 Ca Plane Pour Moi.  Dig Leila K's version?  You'll also dig Swedish girl-band T.E.A.R.S.' almost-indistinguishable 2002 cover from En Rouge.

I'm almost grateful there's no PMV for it.

Boy Krazy - "That's What Love Can Do":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcY1f_vrd4M

This track only made it to #18 on the Billboard Hot 100, but it was both infectious, as well as extremely ahead of its time.  It sounds like something from the year 2000, but it was not only popular in 1993, but made in 1991, a year when 80s influence in popular music had not worn out yet.  I frankly think it beats out everything from the girl groups of millennial era, i.e. Spice Girls, B*Withed, Atomic Kitten, etc. (and I actually like those bands, cheesy as they may be from a current perspective) I seriously wonder why this song didn't do way better; perhaps the world just wasn't quite ready for this style yet?

Nah, I'd say it sounds a bit closer to Bananarama/Stock-Aitken-Waterman late '80s-type pop than the late '90s groups you mentioned. It still has that old-school drum/synth feel to it. This type of music seemed to die out after Roxette/Wilson Phillips's big 1991 hits and this track reflects the tone when those groups were having their last big hits.

Really?  It doesn't sound at all like 80s groups like Bananarama or Roxette at all to me.  Songs by those groups had that signature 80s gated snare (especially Roxette), as well as those buzzsaw synth lines (like in I Heard a Rumour).  The percussion in That's What Love Can Do has that softer, muffled "pop" sound that was typical of 90s dance music, as well as a very house-esque piano triplet backing track (house was popular in 1991 but it was much, much more 90s than 80s), plus a very smooth bass, in stark contrast to the piercing baselines in the type of music you're referring to.  What really makes this song feel like a teen pop anthem from the millennial era, though, are the in-your-face, yet incredibly sunny melody, the emphatic orchestral hits during the chorus, the slick and juicy backup tracks, and other little nuances like those DJ scratches, very common in teen pop from the millennial era.

I think the old, grainy-looking music video probably causes the song to look like an 80s pop song in the vein of Tiffany and Belinda Carlisle, but taking all that out, I really think it sounds significantly more like a late 90s girl group anthem.  Teen pop takes some cues from late 80s pop, after all, just by virtue of its in-your-face melodic style and heavily synthesized production.  I just think it's certain little details that make That's What Love Can Do fit better in the year 2000 than in 1991 or 1987.

Seriously though, trying playing the same song over a video like this, and see how it fits:
