Subject: Beverly Hillbillies reunion show on Jerry Springer (1993)

Written By: Marty McFly on 10/19/08 at 2:09 pm

I just found this on YouTube now (and this is back when Springer was still serious) and it's pretty interesting. Even though BH is one of those shows where even though I kinda peripherally knew it just because it's got such a legendary status, I never knew much about it in detail or watched episodes on a regular basis, so it was cool to hear firsthand what it was like from the castmembers.

Two things that make this even cooler is that it was taped on location in San Francisco too (since I'm from the Bay Area), and it's like double retro now since it was a flashback to the '60s then! ;)

I used to hate Bev. Hillbillies but I have been watching it lately on TV land and finally see the humor.

One thing I'd like to track is how much money the Clampett's had because the amount in the bank tends to vary by episode.

Well, that's the way it is with rich folks.  We see it today with the stock market plummeting...

BH was better than the average American sit-com of the 1960s.  The number of topics vorboten on TV in B.Hillbillies' time kept sit-coms restricted to a either a juvenile superficiality or a terribly dry wit.  The latter didn't sell too well.

I loved the episode where Jethro had "spaghet sauce with mari-ja-juana sauce on it.

LOL that would be funny. You know, I had no idea how smart the guy who played him (Max Baer) was, he and Jethro were like polar opposites. ;D

That seemed like the biggest time for '60s nostalgia. I guess with the movie coming out around then, there was alot of nostalgia for the show (which is why Jerry had him on). I saw that movie and I remember it being pretty funny. It was the first time I'd seen Jim Varney in a non-Ernest role too.

Oh, since this thread's already been started, I just watched the BH movie from 1994 again. It's really funny and fast-paced (Penepole Spherris who directed Wayne's World did it, so it's got a similar kind of humor) - just curious, for anyone familar, how close was it to the original show?

I totally forgot they made the movie.
