When, in the 1990s, did you first notice mullets
and when in the '90s did they begin to get their bad reputation?
And why? I mean usually fashion trends come and go without much criticism but the mullet is generally reviled by most.

January 1, 1990 was when I first noticed mullets in the 90s :P
(Mullets were around in the 80s, and in some form, date as far back as the 60s)

Noticed them pretty much since the beginning of my memory. As far as the bad reputation goes, I'd say 8th grade is when they went out? 93/94.

Mainly speculation on my part, but I think it was Billy Ray Cyrus (and the subsequent backlash against him) what killed the mullet.

I shamefully admit that I had one in '91 and so did my younger brother. I was 8 and it was cool so who can blame me? By '93 I think it was pretty much uncool to have one and luckily I didn't have one since late '91 or so.

I don't even think I heard of the word mullet until like 2000. I found out what the word meant in 2001/2002. I guess I was too slow to catch on.
