Subject: 90's artists in the 80's

Written By: joeman on 01/12/10 at 11:48 pm

A lot of artists changed their style in the 90's when Generation X came into fruition.  One I am most shocked about is Dr Dre, a man who talked about being a gangster but used to be a break dancer.

Anyways, here is some artists in the 80's:

Dr Dre:

Tupac:

Pantera(Hair band):

Layne Staley(from AIC) in Sleeze:

Yeah, Dr.Dre used to be in this early 80s group called The World Class Wreckin Crew.  He used to wear a lot of makeup along with the other members of the group.  They had a song out 23 years ago called "Turn Off The Lights".

It is also interesting to note that MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice changed their style in the mid-late 90's to a more cynical form of music(Ice with Heavy Metal and Hammer as a Gangster Rapper).

MC Hammer even dropped the MC from his name to be more "hardcore."

Expose went from a dance/freestyle group to adult contemporary in the early 90's.

The 90's were more somber so some artists may have tried to fit in to that style while other 80's artists were maturing so their music reflected that.  Or maybe it was a combination of both.

Expose was sort of Adult Contemporary in the 80's with "Seasons Change" in 1988 though.

And they also had dance-pop hits in the 80's with "Come Go With Me" ('86) and "Point Of No Return" ('85).

But then in the 90's they definitely mellowed out, as indicated above. I liked their 1993 hit "I'll Never Get Over You Getting Over Me".

I liked that song too.

Don't know if this counts because she started in the 60's, but Cher had a rock/pop album in the 80's and then an electronic dance album in the 90's.

Absolutely! Cher also had 70s stuff. She's one of those artists who has been active in multiple decades.

Tom Cochrane is a 90s artist who had a string of hits in Canada during the 80s as singer of the band Red Rider.

'Life is A Highway' was his 18th chart single in Canada

Yep...another artist who had lots of hits in his native country but not much success elsewhere (including U.S.). That particular song was probably his best-known in the U.S.
