Use of the term "Internet" to describe a single global TCP/IP network originated in December 1974 with the publication of RFC 675, the first full specification of TCP that was written by Vinton Cerf, Yogen Dalal and Carl Sunshine, then at Stanford University.

I bet most people didn't know the world 'internet' until 1992 or 1993!

At earliest...

But damn, that commercial looks absolutely retro. No longer does the presence of the Internet make a time seem 'current'.

I remember using AOL when it looked like that, when I was just starting out on the internet right around that time.  :o

That's cool. Hard to believe it wasn't that long ago you had to wait 20 minutes to download a photo or have to go offline when your phone rang. Even harder to believe we had enough patience to wait 20 minutes!

I used to have a small collection of AOL CD's I almost miss getting them in the mail. We had MSN Dialup which as far as I'm concenred was pretty good. I miss the MSN groups and the MSNchat days before it was changed to 18+(MSN chats) I used to spend hours in thew city chats and LesbianGayYouth chatroom. Plus there was more easier free porn.
