Subject: Very 90s movies

Written By: Ryan112390 on 06/17/12 at 7:15 pm

What are some movies made in the 90s that really look of their time--Movies that you can automatically tell, due to what the hairstyles or clothes are, they were made in the 90s? Stuff along the lines of Singles, Clerks, Pump up the Volume, Wayne's World, etc?? Especially stuff that has to do with the rock and/or grunge subculture.

Encino Man
Edward Scissorhands (to me, at least, even though it came out in '90, which makes it a bit of a stretch for being a '90s movie)
Scream
American Beauty
High Fidelty (I know it came out in '00, but the '90s weren't culturally over until '02 or so)

Scream
Swingers
Mallrats
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Hackers
American Pie
I Know What You Did Last Summer
Can't Hardly Wait

There's a pretty big difference between the early and later 90's movies.  90-92' movies were like an extension of the 80's with the big hair and bright colors.

The Faculty is the one that comes to mind for me. Katie Holmes, a fresh teenager then, before her strange marriage to Tom Cruise. A close second would have to be The Fifth Element. Bruce Willia, Chris Tucker, Gary Oldman, and Milla Jobovich in a futuristic world. It was a cheesy, 90's imagined futuristic world, but still good.

Honestly, anything with Mike Myers in it, aside from Shrek of course.

I think Edward Scissorhands, Pretty Woman and Pump up the Volume, all from 1990, seem more eighties. Wayne's World is like a hybrid of 80s and 90s.

Any 90s animated movie. It's easy to tell it's from the 90s because they were all musicals and had the same plot devices.

Office Space could have easily been early '00s except for the part that mentions Y2K.

I say Dumb and Dumber is a big one.
