Subject: Would you consider South Park a 90s show?

Written By: belmont22 on 09/08/12 at 10:46 pm

Obviously, since it's still on the air and began in 1997 it's by date mostly a 2000s show. In fact it's even more of a 10s show than a 90s show now by terms of how many years its run!

But its novelty and probably its peak in popularity was in 1998 and 1999, and into the early 2000s. But it was relevant and popular throughout the 2000s and only since about 2010 has it began to decline somewhat.

Do you think of South Park as more of a 90s thing or a 2000s thing?

What do you consider the defining episode/series/moment of South Park. That's it decade.

For example, a lot of people look at "Who shot Mr. Burns?" from 1995 as the epitome of The Simpsons and around that year is when the show was in great popularity so you could say that The Simpsons was mainly a mid-90s thing.

I consider it a 2000s show.  It got a lot of attention when it first came out mostly because of its shock value, but I think the show's creative peak was in the 00s, not to mention the fact that it ran through the entire decade.

2000's, since it was popular then. We could argue about it if it came out in like '95 or '96, but late 90's is usually too late. Espcially when it ran for more years in the other decade - and we all know: It is still running!

It's a bit like 'The King of Queens' by the way. It started back in 1998 but it is an 'ultimate 00's' show with a peaking 00's vibe for me, since it was on the air until 2007.

Yeah, I think culturally the 00s is where it belongs moreso.
