SNES, Super Mario World and F-Zero come out in America. This was a really interesting year for video games.

Square Enix releases Final Fantasy IV https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/90/Final_Fantasy_IV.jpg

Capcom unleashes Street Fighter II to arcades, becomes a HUGE success, starts a trend in fighting games, considered the grandfather of the fighting game genre, begins a string of 100s of versions of the same game, starts a franchise that expands into comic books and anime, comes to consoles shortly: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/1d/SF2_JPN_flyer.jpg

Nintendo releases The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for the Super Famicom (name of the Japanese SNES) in Japan: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/21/The_Legend_of_Zelda_A_Link_to_the_Past_SNES_Game_Cover.jpg
