Well, since most of them are late 90s/early 2000s kids...

The 1993 WTC bombings
1994 OJ Simpson trial
Early airings of Disney Afternoon
Super Mario Bros. TV shows (since they only aired in the early-mid 90s)
Nirvana before Kurt Cobain committed suicide in 1994
The Godfather Part III
Last Action Hero
Goodfellas
The early-mid 90s console wars (along with the superiority era of the Genesis and SNES)
Sega before the Genesis discontinued
Windows 3.1
Seeing Eazy-E, Tupac, and Biggie Smalls live

I think I remember that show airing in 2001/2002 on Saturday mornings.

I used to play Genesis at my friend's house in 1997 (Street Fighter 2), he probably had it in 1996 too. Although, of course, we probably don't remember SEGA as a company before the Saturn. Maybe 1990 borns though.

Well, I guess that's okay. I mean it's not like a lot of early 90s babies watched the show, since the show had new episodes when they were babies.

I think they could remember having a Genesis all the way from 1993 or 1994, if they played video games at a young age. Especially when 1990 babies were about 6-7 years old when the official Genesis was discontinued. But if we're talking about late 1991-93 babies, they wouldn't remember the Genesis before it was discontinued in 1997.

If we're going through the mathematical route, then most 1993 babies are mid 90s babies. That is true. But I think 1993 babies are early 90s borns, despite the year transitioning into mid 90s culture at the time.

Well I would actually group 1990 born with the late 80s babies, since most of them graduated before the changeful 2008-09 season, and their peak childhoods were MAINLY from the mid-late 90s(1995-1999/00), and were teens basically the core 00s....

LOL, that would have sucked anyway. Still the only team in the AFC East without a ring too.

early 90s Nick

Most early 90's babies I know mainly experienced CN's golden age throughout the late 90's/early 2000's. 1990 & 1991 born's would have caught the later half or tail end of Nick's golden age, but the rest like 1992 & 1993 would have been full kids of CN's golden age.

Well technically they missed out on anything that happened before the early/mid (depending on when they were born) 90s.

If you're asking what they just missed out on...

Like most people have mentioned, early/mid 90s kid stuff (very early 90s babies could've caught some of it)
Experiencing the Y2K/Millennium era as a teen
College/being a legal adult in the core 00s

I'd call these the "just missed out on" things, especially for those born in 1992/early 1993:

Muppet Babies (after the show ended in 1991, Nickelodeon reran it for a few more years until around 1996).
Sesame Street with the original theme song and Elmo not a major factor
Square One TV
3-2-1 Contact
Where In The World is Carmen Sandiego?
The world without the Internet being mainstream
Lamb Chop's Play-Along
Captain Planet
USA Network's Cartoon Express
Daytime game shows on network TV (sans TPIR)
American teams in the CFL
Blossom
Smoking vending machines
Head of the Class (was still in reruns on some syndication stations up until 1995 or so)
New Jack Swing
James Bond Jr.
VR Troopers

I agree, we were in 5th grade during the 2006-2007 school year, which was the arguably the first late 2000's school year culturally and numerically but that doesn't make us kids of the late 2000's, when we were about to depart elementary school. Most of our late 2000's years were spent in middle school.

Has anyone mentioned in this thread that early 90s babies didn't grew up with a lot of Saturday morning cartoons? I mean, SMCs were still good during the late 90s/early 2000s, but cable TV also kicked their asses at the time. So, I suppose they didn't watch a lot of SMCs compared to 60s, 70s, 80s, and early 90s kids.

Well, I'm not saying that early 90s babies missed out on SMCs as a whole. A lot of 90s kids could remember SMCs a lot, since they did have more channels to watch them.

I'd say that depends. Remember that only Nickelodeon was popular throughout the decade while CN and DC (yes, even in the late 90s) were mainly still premium channels at that time. In that case, people my age range did watch SMCs at that time ranging from Fox Kids, Kids WB (first era), CBS Kids, Fox Family and Disney s One Saturday Morning/ABC SatAM.

I could get Disney Channel, but wasn't Cartoon Network a basic cable channel in the late 90s? Especially when a lot of late 90s kids remember the channel in their childhood? Besides, they already had the Children's Television Act of 1990 affecting children's television (including Saturday Morning Cartoons) around 1996. But I suppose SMCs were still in its bronze age during the late 90s/early 2000s.

Cartoon Network was actually a basic cable channel from the beginning, it just took it a few years to become widely available. It was first added to our cable package in 1997. That, combined with numerous other factors including Disney switching to basic cable, the rise of Kids WB, and the crackdown on enforcement of the CTA of 1990 was what led to precipitous decline in ratings for SMCs on the traditional broadcast networks during the Y2K era.

Yeah, that's the point. SMCs weren't that popular compared to the 60s - early 90s, since that's when there wasn't a lot of restrictions and cable TV didn't slowly dominate the children's media until then.

Yea! CN's peak popularity was more of a 00s thing. Nick, Fox kids, CBS kids and early Kids WB are seen as THE "90s kid channels''
Same thing with Disney Channel. Now I can see why some people wouldn't even remember the Zoog era since DC was still a premium channel at that time. When most people think of DC's heyday it's mainly 2002-2005.

Luckily for me Disney was available for me and my family during the zoog years! ;) :)

Yea! CN's peak popularity was more of a 00s thing. Nick, Fox kids, CBS kids and early Kids WB are seen as THE "90s kid channels''

Funny story, for a long time, when I was in K and 1st grade, I used to call Zoog Disney "Zoom Disney", basically instead of "zoog" I'd always say "zoom" for some odd reason. "ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM DISNEY woo hoo" I don't know why I pronounced it wrong when I was that young. I loved how "Zoog" and "Toon" were catchy rhyme phrases for the classic Disney channel ages. Heck, even the early "Playhouse" had that family-friendly vibe as well. You should search "zoog" on the urban dictionary!  ;D

Any of you notice this? With Disney's channels. The name used to go before the word "Disney". But over the years to nowadays the name goes after the word "Disney". For example. "Playhouse Disney" and "Zoog Disney" were the main blocks part of the Disney Channel. While "Toon Disney" was a separate channel for all the animated shows and movies. But now, it's just plain "Disney Channel", "Disney Junior", and "Disney XD" as separate networks, and it's obviously not the same as before.

My family got Disney Channel in 1998. However, I only watched the network for Playhouse Disney from 1998-2001. Stanley was the very last show (or preschool show in general) I was hooked into. My favorite lineups for Playhouse Disney were 1999 & 2000. As for Zoog Disney, I have a few memories from that era, but not that much since most of its programming still bored me at the time. Around 2001 when I was at my cousins' house, a movie called "Life Size" had came on and it was a weird ass movie about a barbie doll turning into a live human, that was my earliest memory of Zoog Disney. Then one time in late 2001 after I came home from Kindergarten, I was watching Stanley on Playhouse Disney, then after Playhouse went off and switched to Zoog Disney, Pepper Ann and Disney's Doug came on (which was the first time I discovered the shows) then after that Proud Family came on, which was the first time I saw that as well. My last memory of Zoog Disney was one random day around summer 2002 when I had the TV on and Kim Possible was on, and that was the very first time I saw that show, then afterwards Even Stevens came on. After that I don't remember seeing Zoog ever since and I noticed the logo had changed later on. Other than that, mid 2003 and onwards is when I began keeping up with Disney Channel on a regular/weekly basis, thanks to That's So Raven.

What do you think.

They missed out on:

- Turtlemania '90 (as Eazy-EMan1995 mentioned)

- When McDonalds did away with their styrofoam packaging (1990)

- Seeing the Takara Rock N Roll flowers/ dancing cans and bottles in the mall (1989-1993)

- Seeing "Roller Coaster Rabbit" (the last motion picture most people remember seeing Roger Rabbit in) before Dick Tracy in theaters (1990).

- The baseball-card bubble of the late '80s and early 1990s

- The Parker Lewis vs. Ferris Bueller debate of 1990-91

- Watching the unedited episodes of "Saved by the Bell" with the original commercial bumpers on Saturday mornings (1989-1993)

- When almost every young man was walking around with a design carved in their hair (1989-mid '92)

- Vanilla Ice being referred to as "the Elvis of rap" (1991)

- The controversy over Roseanne's off-key rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner (1990)

- The Slap-Bracelet Ban (1990)

- The Starter Jacket Parka Coat trend of 1991-1993

- The Pee Wee Herman scandal (1991)

- Hypercolor craze (1991)

- The fourth troll doll craze (summer of 1991-1993)

-Dan Quayles "Potatoe" Incident (1992)

- The console wars (1991-1994/1995)

I'd call these the "just missed out on" things, especially for those born in 1992/early 1993:

Muppet Babies (after the show ended in 1991, Nickelodeon reran it for a few more years until around 1996).
Sesame Street with the original theme song and Elmo not a major factor
Square One TV
3-2-1 Contact
Where In The World is Carmen Sandiego?
The world without the Internet being mainstream
Lamb Chop's Play-Along
Captain Planet
USA Network's Cartoon Express
Daytime game shows on network TV (sans TPIR)
American teams in the CFL
Blossom
Smoking vending machines
Head of the Class (was still in reruns on some syndication stations up until 1995 or so)
New Jack Swing
James Bond Jr.
VR Troopers

I think I caught that one! It might have been reruns though, but I was obsessed with it!
