Subject: Favourite 90's Childhood Movies

Written By: HazelBlue99 on 08/27/16 at 10:44 am

I couldn't find a thread based on this topic, so I decided to create it.

My favourite 90's childhood movies were:

The Sandlot
The Lion King
Toy Story / 2
The Land Before Time
Aladdin
The Santa Clause
A Goofy Movie
A Bug's Life
Tarzan
Space Jam
Home Alone / 2
Stuart Little
Rugrats Movie
Antz
Winnie The Pooh

Even though I really liked all of the movies I listed above, The Sandlot, Stuart Little, Space Jam and The Lion King are personal stand-outs for me. In regards to The Sandlot, it's funny how the second sequel to the movie is almost identical to the original, except that it is set in 1972 (instead of 1962) and the characters are different (but even they are based on the characters in the original). :P

My favorite ones were...

The Lion King
Pocahontas (yes, I like the movie, even though it's kinda historically inaccurate)
Toy Story 1 & 2
Stuart Little
Matilda

Yeah, I was more of a 2000s kid movie guy growing up.

Aladdin! All of them! I watched them a million times. I watched the TV show a lot too. I bought it on VHS too.

I remember being obsessed with Jurassic Park and Winnie The Pooh at the time too.

Heck yeah, Phantom Menace! :D The prequels get a lot of hate, but I absolutely loved them growing up, and still do.

Well, all of these besides The Sandlot (only one I haven't seen on this list), Stuart Little, Rugrats Movie, and A Goofy Movie. All Dogs Go To Heaven 2, The Little Rascals, The Indian in the Cupboard, The Muppets movies  and a lot of Power Rangers movies. I'm sure there's more, I just can't think of any more at the moment.

It's alright. I don't really take the hate for Star Wars prequels and The Force Awakens seriously, since I find the franchise to be extremely overrated.

Just curious, have you seen all seven movies? I grew up with them (besides The Force Awakens), so that might be why I love them so much.

I only saw The Phantom Menace when it was re-released into theatres around 2012, but I didn't really care about it after I watched the movie. That being said, I never really liked the Star Wars franchise.

Ahh, yeah. You would've been around 12 when that came out, it's probably harder to get into it when you're a bit older, at least with the prequels (TPM in particular). I would give a shot with the original trilogy if you ever have (if you really don't want to, don't of course) the spare time, they're very different from the prequels. If you dislike A New Hope, I wouldn't continue watching though.

I really think that I wouldn't get into any of the Star Wars movies. Not even The Force Awakens. To me, I feel like they've been advertised so much since the late 70s. I feel like it's worse, since most of the immature fanboys have been saying Disney made the franchise look like crap. Even though I think that it's a lie, since it's just a godforsaken work of fiction. I don't even care if the franchise is owned by Disney, it's still freakin' Star Wars. That's why I just think Star Wars is one of the most overrated franchises in film history.

I can say the original (prequels still get a lot of hate, and people's opinions on The Force Awakens are mixed) trilogy is overrated, but overrated movies aren't always bad movies. You never know until you try it.

Although, I understand what you mean. Harry Potter is a huge franchise, and the first one I fully watched was when I was 12 I think. I didn't care too much for it, but I didn't think it was bad. I've ended up watching all of them besides Deathly Hallows Part 2 since then, and I think they are just alright. I find the franchise to be overrated as you do Star Wars (which I can agree with, but I still love them).

Well, I just think the Star Wars films weren't that good. Especially with The Phantom Menace. It's just a sci-fi series filled with stuff that could've entertained somebody who would love to see a revolution in space. But considering people already put out that Darth Vader line from "A New Hope" ever since the movie came out, it was just kinda tedious for me.

Yeah, I understand what you mean. I read the books and play the video games, so I guess there's a lot more to it for me.

You watched the 1995 movie with that CGI Casper? Well, as somebody who grew up with some remakes in the 2000s, I forgive you on that.

I've never gotten a chance to see this. But I had a knack for getting away with watching these types of films, rated r and adult only, when I was a kid. My parents were cool with Horror movies and Beavis & Butthead but I would sneakingly watch this kind of stuff as well. Sex, drugs etc. I don't think one should watch porn or naked films til high school age but I was only 10 😞 I was just always very curious as well as mature for my age. So I understand the stories they were trying to tell in movies like Kids.

Back to topic... DComs were great back in my childhood. Even when I got heavily into Horror in late 96 I was still watching tween movies. Airborne and Under Wraps are my top two from the Disney Channel.

The Sandlot

The Sandlot was one of my favourite childhood movies as well. Just out of curiosity, have you (or anyone else) ever watched the two sequels? The second sequel was pretty good, despite the fact that it is very similar to the first movie, however the third sequel isn't that good at all.

The full movie is on YouTube, it's a pretty good watch. Beware though–it is very, very disturbing. Kids really screws with your head. Even the actors were shocked at the movie when they watched for the 20th anniversary screening at BAM last summer.

There's no possible way that I could name all of my favorite '90s kids movies, 'cause if I did it would take all day. Besides, the rest of you guys have already listed most of my favorites anyway.

There is one, though, that I have not seen listed yet, and it just happens to be my favorite '90s kids movie of them all, even after 26 years.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNQNoWABGDk

I've watched this movie probably a thousand times over the years, and it still holds up to this day, even watching it as an adult. The Turtle's costumes are amazing, Shredder talks like Darth Vader, and Elias Koteas plays the coolest version of Casey Jones bar none. Best Turtles movie ever, and it's not even close.

Hey mqg! I missed you too dude! I decided to take a break at the beginning of the summer because I had to focus on an online summer class for college which lasted four weeks (so I had to put all my attention into passing that class). Another just as important reason I decided to take a break from the boards was because I realized that my addiction to this website had taken over other aspects of my life which culminated in my immature and unnecessary exchange with.. ahem.. "they who shan't be named". So I decided to take a step back and focus on life for a bit. Anyways, it's good to be back. I'm going to try not to post as much as I used to though, but I'm definitely gonna lurk around in the Arcade.
