Subject: How Many Major Events From the '90s Can You Remember?

Written By: mach!ne_he@d on 06/19/17 at 2:18 pm

Well, after some popular demand, here is a memory test for the '90s similar to the '00s test I did the other day. Honestly, I'm genuinely curious how well I will do on this, given that I was only ages 3 to 12 during the '90s.

So, that's 30 out of 69 items. Not too bad considering my age.

As you can see, I don't remember any major events from the early '90s. Honestly, it's not until 1993 that I get to a point where I can remember any major events, and the mid '90s before I can remember anything very detailed.

Titanic, Pokémon and Zelda. That's it! ;D

One big international event I remember was the earthquake in Athens in 1999. I was just there the year prior, so I was really sad to see all the destroyed buildings and dead people there. :(

You mean that 1993er on YouTube that said he could remember when Windows 95 launched was lying? That's stunning.

If his parents bought it in 1995, I could believe it (barely). But obviously, a 2 year old is not going to keep track of these events on their own. :o

That's pretty impressive! You were born in 85' right?

Subject: Re: How Many Major Events From the '90s Can You Remember?

Written By: ZeldaFan20 on 06/20/17 at 8:18 pm

Observing the answers in both this and the 2000's thread on this topic it seems that most people start vividly remember current events (natural disasters, politics, terrorist attacks, etc.) around age 5 or 6. The fact that Bchris could remember most of 1990 onwards (assuming he was born in 85'), MachineHead (born in 87') could vividly remember 93' onwards, and Brian (also born in 87') could vividly remember 92' onwards. In the 2000's version I bolded some events from 2000 & 2001 (being 4 & 5 then) , but in all honesty most of those events I just have a vague recollection of.

The first major political event I could vividly remember and visually picture myself was 9/11, as I was just starting kindergarten and was actually living in NY at the time, thus I remember the event from a personal level as well. If you notice on the 2000's version, Most events from 2002 onwards (ages 6+) I could remember easily.

Of course, how you were raised could have major implications to how easy someone could remember something. I was dotted as a kid, but even then I was pretty self aware of my surroundings.
