To be fair, I was sort of just having fun when I decided to compile a top 200, and I wouldn't say for certain 1995 is superior to 1983, 1984, and 1985, but it's definitely my favourite 90s year for music, even better than 1994. There was just such a variety of different songs that all worked in their own way that year.

I guess it's a bit ironic, from my own perspective, that such a huge chunk of your list is comprised only of Garbage, Bjork, and Smashing Pumpkins songs. I take it you're just a big fan of Garbage's debut, Post, and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness?

To be honest, i'm actually a bit surprised that you didn't list this song at all:

This would have to be one of my favourite songs of 1995.

It was actually released as a single in 1996, even though the album came out in October 1995. I agree it's a pretty cool song. Unlike most obscure British alternative bands from the mid-90s, Spacehog were in fact able to score a hit with this track, not only doing excellently on the rock airplay charts, but also landing within the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Oh god, I forgot about "Call It Love" by Deuce. That would be roughly #23 on my list.

I wasn't aware of that, to be honest. It's surprising that "In the Meantime" performed so well in the US, especially given how most British alternative bands at the time never achieved the same amount of success.

I'm a big Bjork fan in general, and also a big fan of Mellon Collie and Garbage's debut album.
