When did curtained hair replace mullets?

They didn't replace mullets, they were popular alongside mullets, and fell out of popularity around 1997-1998.

In the UK, curtained hair started in 1990 with the Madchester scene. I had curtains in 1990. It's even mentioned on wiki.

I would say 1996. You figure they got rid of Superman's mullet in December 1996. 1996 is the last year you see them in major movies and such too.
