- Waterboy
- Wedding Singer
- There's Something About Mary
- Rush Hour

So that means three of us began using it that year!

I think my parents also began going online in 1998, during the summer months. My dad got access to it at his office; and my mom took a new job in August and (I think) was able to go online.

Written By: CatwomanofV on 04/16/23 at 2:47 pm

1998 was a GREAT year for me-probably one of the best years of my life.

First, I moved in with Carlos. It was a bit sad to move out of my old apartment that I loved so much and had lived there for about 6 years. It was a good place for me-I did a lot of growing and healing in that apartment, but I knew I was moving on to better things. (I STILL have dreams about that apartment.)

Then we ventured on our first cross-country trip together. We stopped in Tulsa for my Grandmother's 90th birthday party and Carlos met most of my family. (He had met a few before but not many). Then we headed west. It was my first real trip to California. (I don't count changing flights at LAX). We stayed with his sister. Then (complements of my sister who we stayed with in Tulsa) we went to Disneyland-a bucket list item for me.

I might have told this story before. Carlos was showing me all the ins and outs of Disneyland since he had been there before. I was a bit disappointed that we didn't get to ride the teacups-something I wanted to but we didn't get there until late and we needed to head back. In the car, I told Carlos that I had a GREAT time and I thanked him for the wonderful day. He said, "I'm glad you had a good time and if you ever want to go again...take someone else because I HATE amusement parks!" WHAT??!!! My jaw hit the floor. He NEVER let on how much he hated them all day. The only time he complained was when we got off of the Indiana Jones ride and complained that it was a roller coaster. If he had known, we wouldn't have rode it. (I don't care for roller coasters either.) At that moment, my love for him deepened. He didn't let on that he hated it so I could have a good time.

We sailed to Catalina Island with his sister. I met his cousin & his wife for the first time. Carlos told me that his cousin was a big tease so I was on my guard but it never happened. Come to find out that he did that to Carlos' ex because his cousin didn't like her (and I heard the feeling was mutual)-but he liked me so he didn't tease.

On the way home, we stopped in Las Vegas and hit the casinos. We went into one and I don't know how long we were in there (it wasn't long) when I thought maybe it was a Donald Trump casino. I told Carlos that I wanted to get out of there and go to another one. Even in those days I hated Donald Trump. But, it was a good thing that we did go to another casino because I won $300 in a slot machine and I won bragging rights, too.

It was a GREAT trip and a GREAT year.

What did you use it for?

The internet? At first I just used it to browse the college website. It was all new to me in August of 1998.

Later in the year, around October, I was assigned to use the internet for a report for my geography class. I sought assistance from the writing center on campus, and that helped me a great deal.

I also used the IE browser to visit the website of my then-favorite radio station.
