Subject: How were 1994/1995 and 1998/1999 different socially (atmosphere wise)

How were 1995 and 1999 different socially (atmosphere wise) in the US? What was the general zeitgeist like both for Baby Boomers and Gen X and American culture in both years? - compare and contrast. What was the fashion like in 95 versus 99 and in 94 versus 98? Teen culture? What was big among the 5-10 year old demographic?

I think both were like centerpiece years of two very different parts of the 90s. The decade changed rapidly. I'm a fan of the shows The Sopranos and Family Guy, their first seasons were produced in 98 and debuted in 99, and both are very much with the zeitgeist of the Y2K Era, I wonder how 95 versions would be different

There was quite a change, 1999 was more conservative than 1995 was. Generation X was still the target demographic for pop culture in 1995 meanwhile, Millennials were the target Pop Culture demographic in 1999. Kid culture also changed by quite a bit, such as Power Rangers being huge back in 1995, by about Spring 1999 Pokemon became huge and was inescapable at the time.

1994/1995 were a lot more laid back in terms of fashion (e.g. grungy). Longer hair was still acceptable on guys. The music is vague to me but my Dad did have a Hootie & the Blowfish album and I can remember Cheryl Crow, Del Amitri, Counting Crows, Blues Traveler, & Seal being played in the background. I didn't know the band names or singers until years later, but can definitely remember their songs being played at that time. I believe my mom had a Alanis Morisette CD as well. My parents also played a lot of 70's classic rock (e.g. Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, etc), so as a young kid I tended to confuse them for 90's music.

1998/1999 was a lot more image conscious and "metro." As a kid, I sorta knew something changed in the atmosphere between the time I was in preschool ('94) and 3rd grade ('99). I did have cousins in high school at the time and was exposed to a lot of 90's things. In first grade, it was all about Hansen and the Spice Girls. And then 2nd and 3rd it was the Backstreet Boys, Will Smith, N'Sync, Britney Spears, etc. Everything was bubblegum pop. The show Friends was in its prime back then and it's the first show I think of when I think about the late 90's.

Were you in 3rd grade in the 1998-99 or the 1999-2000 school year?
