We've all discussed how teen culture by the late 90s clearly shifted from Late Gen X over to Early Gen Y (now called Millennials) with the Y2K style and teen pop and whatnot. Here's an article from Forbes documenting that change in real time.

interesting that they set a time frame for the changes happening as being the start of 1997 because  it was September and they "said 8 months ago things began loosening up"

It's probably because of The Spice Girls becoming popular in the US.

this, after that came out  BSB did and also Hanson

by late 96 16 bit was  out, In 1996's DKC 3 Nintendo 64 is heavily advertised inside the game lol  By early 97 you were either team Playstation or N64
