Subject: 1995-2005: The Clipart era

Written By: Early10sFan on 08/26/18 at 3:32 am

Hi, a new member here (somewhat ;)). Clipart are those simple images that were included in old versions of Micorosoft Office (e.g. 97, 2000) and CorelDraw. Early ones were vector images, but MS Office switched to photos I think later. Due to the Internet, MS Office no longer includes clipart. However, online clipart is not as cool.
Clipart got less good-looking in the 2000's and felt quite generic. Thankfully many printed magazines and newspapers used the 1999-2000 cliparts still in those years. Clipart declined further in the mid 00s when web sites started replacing printed editions. Anyway, I think they could work even online as icons on websites.

I think CorelDraw 9-10 era clipart was very good. In fact my avatar is from that CD. The dates of the files are April 1999. Here are some others from that collection, converted to jpg by me. No copyright infringmenet intended  ;):

While most were simple, some were quite elaborate:

There is one I remember from the 90s but I can't find it anywhere online. It was a black/white animal (a Tuxedo cat/badger/racoon thing) holding a red heart shape with its paws. It was very cool, yet I can't find it anywhere online, I only find newer stuff. What were the biggest clipart collections in the 90s and early 00s except CorelDraw and MS Office? Do you remmeber the clipart era?

I know this is from the '10s, but it uses lots of clipart. Then again, it is probs a parody anyway and therefore the dagginess of the clipart might be deliberate. :P

"Welcome" to the forums ;D

Clipart was really useful when I needed to add images to my PowerPoint in a pinch :D

I used to use them pretty heavily as well, but in restrospect they make everything look instantly more childish and unprofessional, more so than Comic Sans MS could have ever hoped for ;D

I personally think they look good in print. Made the otherwise boring paper newspapers come alive. The first ones I posted were used in the Craiglist-like ads sections.

I'm appalled not by the subject, more by how ugly clip art has become.

I think I found a similar image in the same style. The face, the eyes look the same, except this one is not a cat/racoon but a bear:

Add some pointy ears and a black/white fur and it's the one I'm looking for. ;)

Why has it become ugly?
